Sky Fibre Optic

Can a homehub 5 work with sky fibre?

Nope.

Do Sky use the same network as BT for fibre?

I currently get nearly 58Mbps with BT and just checked Sky speeds and they said it would be around 40Mbps, seems a bit of a difference.

Broadband gets hammered with console updates/games/YouTube streaming all at the same time.

Sync rates will be identical regardless of which FTTC provider you go with - barring differences relating to quality of modems supplied by the ISP and their willingness to badger Openreach in the case of any dynamic sync rate management problems. Sky have moved to average speeds for some reason, it's no more accurate than the previous figures.

Has anyone had any issues with the SR102? Last night the connection locked. Could still login to the router but the connection was still synced and up but no access.

Had to power it down after 1078 hours to get access. First time this had happened. Normally I get 2 - 3 months or so and even then I hardly ever have to unplug.

Yeah happened about three times last year. So far it's been up for 90 days without issue.

It's a tiny little box that can live under or at the back of the desk. The throughput of cheaper routers with 4 1Gb ports is usually pretty poor.

Just having a Google and it appears Sky have relaxed the rules.

Look in the comments at the bottom, specifically:

Your sky id *IS* your LAN MAC address which is written on the back of your Sky Hub SR101/2 just above the serial number.
It’s the MAC address (in lower case letters) followed by @skydsl

The username you can get from wireshark.

But you really don’t need any of this information anymore. You can enter “anything@skydsl” and “fubar” as password and it should work. Sky relaxed this some time ago.

Remember to clone your SKY hub MAC address (broadband port)

I did have a look but major downside for me is it Only has 2 ethernet ports - i Need a minimum of 3

How do you find the range? and how many devices are they rated for?

Small switch for a tenner bypasses the need for more ports on the router. I have about 11 devices cabled into mine via an 8 and a 5 port switch.

I find the range great, I have an old 1930s terraced with the router down and front and my bedroom up and back and get 500-800mbps reported connection speed.

Also I got it for £20 when I joined sky last June after asking them for it.
