Sky Fibre Optic

No issues with my Hub 3/Q Hub here. Dual band, wireless ac too.

Had no issues with my SR102, wanted a better router which allowed you to set it up the way you want it for example QOS.

Which can give you a far better control over your internet, gaming, streaming etc.

sky routers are cheap and not even cheerful, the Q has only 2 Ethernet ports how cheap is that 4 is the norm.

If you want the best from your connection a wired one is the best RJ45 cheap as chips just shop round.

Wireless connection best suited for your mobile and ipad.

What did you upgrade to? The SR102 is awful.

I got a Netgear D7000 modern/router second hand just a few months old, new about £130 upwards always shop round.

You can't use a sky hub with a cable connection a good third party one will if needed.

I used to speak to many customers who didn't even use Ethernet on any device. Even those that do rarely use more than 1 or 2. Sky looked at all their data from their routers and decided accordingly.

And for those who want additional ports, like myself, can buy a switch, simples

Just a quick update following my upgrade to a D7000 router its solid as a rock have gained Upload and download speeds and most important has QOS if used right pays dividends for a household with a lot of users.

Quality of Service (QoS) is an advanced feature that prioritizes internet traffic for applications, streaming, browsing, online gaming, Ethernet LAN ports, or specified MAC addresses to minimize the impact of busy bandwidth.

Thinking of moving from Plusnet to Sky. Was wondering if it is still easy enough to get the relevant login information to use your own modem/router or have they increased security on the new Sky Q Hubs to prevent this?

I'm moving to a new property soon, but the Sky website doesn't show the fibre max as being available. The BT Wholesale checker says 52-65meg available. Is it just a problem with the Sky checker/website?

Edit: House next door seems show Fibre Max as an option, served from the same cab.

Hi, there's a chance Sky Fibre have not installed their equipment yet for that cabinet, check with sky to make sure.

The 3 neighbouring houses show Fibre Max as being an option, the house we're moving to shows fibre but not max - they're all served from the same cab.

Edit: I think there's a problem with the Openreach checker as the house isn't listed on the checker on the OR site.

Send me a trust message with your details and I can get someone to check.

Anyone experience an outage early this morning between midnight and 3am? Sky hub stopped fetching data so I rebooted it, line synced OK and then it got stuck for a good 2 hours trying to find an IP address.

I did yes as it happens. Not for that long, maybe ten minutes but I did lose connection around 2:30

Hi folks, looking for a bit of advice (Sorry if this gets long winded, TLDR at the bottom).

I’ve had the Sky Fibre Unlimited package (40/10) for a couple of years now and can’t fault it. My Line synced at 40/9.9 and never had a day where this speed was any different; it really has been rock solid.

Yesterday I upgraded to the Pro package, I was advised I would receive around 53/18 (I’m completely fine with the nominal speed increase to the DL, as the UL has become slightly more important in our household.)

I checked my speed around midnight last night and sure enough my speed had improved to 57000/18000, This is where my problem starts, and where I’m looking for some help.

Throughout today my download speeds have been all over the place, the vast majority of the time my speed has stayed at 40mb, but worryingly a good few times this afternoon I was barely able to get above 10mb, and for a very, very short time I was able to grab a file over Usenet at 54mb.

At no point did I imagine that upgrading would actually give us a lower internet speed.

AFAIK there is no training period on fibre, so Im pretty stumped as to what could be causing the terrible speeds (It seems to be jumping around all over the place), I’m 100% certain there is no fault at our end (We simply haven’t made any changes to anything), but if anyone has any idea what could have gone wrong with the upgrade, I’d really like to know.

TLDR

Upgraded Sky Fibre from 40/10, Now connected at 57/18 but speeds are way slower than before the upgrade.
