Sky Fibre Optic

All they said to me was that the Sky engineer would have to replace the master faceplate and that was it

That's what happened with me. He took more time using my toilet than he did replacing the master socket. Even I could've done this without an engineer.

I think another user on this forum did manage to get his master socket position changed and he was deeply offended when I questioned why his installation took so long.

Well it's booked for the 19th october. I will have some cash on me so i can bribe the engineer if needed as i really want the master socket relocating.

You will not have to bribe him with anything - relocating the socket (if needed) is part of the install. Just give him some tea or coffee and you will be fine

i got the activation fee refunded the second i paid for it. thats how they got around it.

interesting. I tried 2 or 3 times stating that I am willing to pay the activation if they would refund me after installation.

They said it was not possible. I was also asked "do I actually need fibre" which I found odd.

I got that letter too.
Is there any way around the price hike?
Can we pay upfront for 1 year?

Yes you can pay upfront for a year to get around the hike. Just call them up and ask for the 12 month line rental offer, it works out at about £10 a month doing it that way too and you wont be affected by the price hike until after the prepaid period ends.

Anyone know how long they've had to wait after the eta date to get fibre?

My local exchange according to samknows says "FTTC status:RFS date set : 30/09/2012"

That originally said 30/06/2012 in May this year.

thats just a holding date for the exchange.. every 3 months it rolls to a new holding date.

So to answer your question when it say enabled... although exchange being enabled is only one step.. you also need the 'cab' your line is connected to upgraded and enabled to be able to order fibre and this does not necessarily happen at the same time.. For instance my exchange has been enabled for the past three months but no sign of my cab being upgraded so I still cannot get fibre.

Hmm I see, Thanks for your reply.

Can someone confirm exactly what equipment they are using for Sky Fibre?
I assume it has some indication that it's a fibre/vdsl device?
