*** Sky Q Thread ***

So what's happening with Sky Sports then?

Only recently signed up to it again with Sky Q back in April, contracted for 18months. I understand this will be the case for new subscribers but what about existing customers in contract?

Paying the previous rental for all the Sky Sports channels incl. F1 but now with the new system I'd have to pay more for the same amount of content? Unless I'm missing something, that is daylight robbery.

After successful negotiation with skyChat I'm also now on Sky Q. a few days ago when I "cancelled" there was apparently no way to have an offer and Q at the same time. So I took a 60% offer on my TV sub, then today went back and asked about Q and they were more than happy to charge me £12 a month for Q Multiroom and £115 for the 2 boxes and the new router, much needed as the old one is crap and keeps pretending my server and sometimes my main PC don't actually exist due to the number of devices on the network.

Better yet, I only found out after ordering that all the football and F1 in UHD is also 50p. Very pleased. I don't even get to see 4k50 working for the damned PL lol.

Deal was £68 a month for 12 (my 6% off deal) and £130 for 6 months after, but I was assured I can get a new deal in 12 months. Kept the chat to quote just in case. That's all my phone, anytime calls, 4.5mb "fibre", Box sets, Sports in HD and Multiroom. About 3 quid more than I paid last month for no sport and no multiroom.

I only really watch the Man Utd games and whether it's actually the case or not, most seem to have been shown on BT Sport.

Same as me, but that's because BT have FA, and UCL so they'll have plenty of United games this year. I think every round of United in the FA cup has been televised for the last 58 matches or something daft. I also watch the F1 to be fair.

BT are showing 42 PL matches this year.
Sky are showing 126 PL matches this year.

Here's the breakdown of what games they have

THE PACKAGES SKY WON
  • Package A comprises 28 games on Saturday lunchtimes (12.30pm).
  • Package C has 28 games kicking off between 1.30pm and 2.15pm on Sundays. Pack A has 6 'first pick' games from 38 rounds and B has 9 first picks.
  • Package D is the 4pm Sunday bundle of 28 games - crucially with 18 'first pick' games.
  • Package E is the 'Monday night football' (8pm) bundle, with 18 games on Mondays plus 10 on Fridays; this is the first time Premier League games will be shown live on Friday evenings. There are no first picks in this package.
  • Package G is a bundle of 14 games on Bank Holidays and other Sunday matches with two first picks.

THE PACKAGES BT SPORT WON
  • Package B has 28 games at tea-time on Saturdays (5.30pm)
  • Packages F has 14 games, a mix of midweek and Saturday games including three first picks.

Has the reliability of the Sky Q main boxes improved in the last year? I had an awful experience with them and cancelled within two weeks last time I tried it.
Has the interface improved so it shows what programmes are in HD and other things the standard Sky+ box had?

My Sky Q system, main box and two mini's, has been flawless from day one, approaching 14 months I've had it now and maybe I have had to reboot it twice in that time.

Certainly not the regular monthly thing I had with my Sky+ box towards the end.

As you work your way through the EPG then in the top right of the screen it tells you if the program is in HD or SD and if its stereo or dolby how long the show is, have you got it set to record or series link, etc, so the interface is far more friendly and user orientated than the old one IMO.

Anyone successful negotiated a decent renewal price on Sky Q?

Currently on the £12 a month Sky Q multiroom and boxsets deal so I know it won't be anywhere near what I'm paying now but if its going to be close to full price I might make the jump to Virgin as thinking of going with them for broadband. That said even the new Tivo box looks pretty rubbish and I would miss the mini.

Yes this is changing

on the 16th I believe, £18 for one channel, £22 for 2 and £26 for 3. For everything its staying at £27.50.

Those are the numbers from the daily fail.

But you still need the basic package. So it's actually £22 plus £18 for one sports channel. Plus £6 for HD so to get F1 it's £46.

I'm not complaining, I pay £35 for everything.

Cool, thank you Entai!

I might have to consider upgrading in time for the premier league and get me some OLED UHD Football action :)

Indeed.

Plenty of people that want the F1 though already had Sky and just (me included) refused to pay £33.50 extra a month for 20 races a year. The only reason I have it now is because I got 60% off.

Hmmm maybe I won't actually. I didn't realise you need a SKY multi-room subscription to even get UHD. Getting the 2TB UHD box isn't enough it seems and it's naff as I only have one TV too.

Don't see why I shouldn't be able to get UHD just with the 2TB box. It appears to be a really poor money grabbing technique on SKY's part.

You don't have to have a second box to get UHD.

Personally I just think the naming is incorrect, they should not call it multi-room subscription, they should call it UHD subscription, you pay the £12 to get all the UHD content.

Yeah think I'll pass. Not worth £12 a month in my opinion seeing as I'd already have to be paying £200 for the UHD box unless they give me discount when my contract is up in a while.

Thanks for the replies :)

But you only pay £65 for 2tb box up front when you pay the mult room subscription.

Then click that you don't want a mini box sending out to you.

Where do you get £200 up front from?

Ah yes, sorry it changes to £65 from £200 when selecting multi-room, but works out to £281 which I guess is then 'only' an additional £81 for UHD over the course of the contract.
But then factoring in the £20 for sky sports too, then, it's too much for me again.

Be aware that, even putting aside any stability problems or bugs, there are still deficiencies in the interface. There's no favourites system and no way of separating content between users or boxes. All recordings or downloads go into one pool you can access from any box. Great for people like me who live alone and just want everything in any room but, if your extra boxes are for kids rooms etc, the lack of any ability to separate content could be an issue.

There is still no HDR on sky movies 4k is there ? it is on Amazon/netflix but no plans yet revealed by sky - will they not loose market share.
I have not seen any postings with folks raving about the 4K movies quality/content/delivery-system, so that leaves just the live broadcast F1 & PL @4k.

LOL - The surprising new sky movies advertising for summer 2017 is "we have ten blockbusters from 2016"
not very inspirational, they need a better marketting team. (I will stick with w/o movies)
