*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

god are sky hard work on the live chat

managed to get them give me an offer wasn't the best but took an hour to get it out of them. Then after closing the chat the email offer comes through confirming the offer which is £10 less than what we agreed on the chat

Going to give them a good working over tomorrow now for wasting over an hour of my time.

YouView requires a subscription though doesn't it? What we want is a to be able to record one channel and watch another, and we've got the dual sat feeds coming into the flat that we used to Sky, so sort of makes sense.
.

No it doesnt. Youview is free. BT Youview is basically normal Youview with bells and whistles on top and BT charge minimum £7 a month for. You get more channels than standard Youview and players and you can get a lot of the channels that are in a basic Sky TV package. You can also add on Sky Movies and Sky Sports and of course you get BT Sports.

My Dad bought a Humax Youview box which is subcription free. I used to have one. Not sure whether you can still get it but there was a firmware you could upload to the box which unlocked it in a way enabling people to write there own apps etc and add them to the box. You could browse to the box using http and access custom menus that let you do things like backup your scheduled TV recordings etc. There was quite an active community around it once.

1st post, so any help appreciated .....

Well after 13 years and 1 month loyalty to Sky, I have just cancelled my contract with them. Was only offered a pathetic 25% off my TV package - but the new figure was still around the £110 per month..

Was offered no deals on my Broadband and phone-line so I have cancelled the lot.

Now venturing into the unknown ...

I was paying around £120 PM for everything including the full TV package, HD, multi-room, broadband and phone-line - on top of that I was paying £23.99 to BT.

I am now tempted to use BT for Phone & Broadband to get a better deal on BT sport, but not sure on the TV as we love Sky Atlantic.

I am holding out for them to phone with an offer I cannot refuse, but not really expecting any call as they didn't really attempt to keep me...

Could go with VM for everything, but heard horror stories about them.

Any suggestions welcome ...

Sky Atlantic is only available with Sky so you have no options there. I am with Virgin and I pay about £110 all in for the top package with Sports, Movies, 200mb BB, Phone.

I know, that's my problem. I could go with NOW TV, I am sure you can get Sky Atlantic through them... Thanks for the quick reply.

Why were you also paying £23.99 to BT?

Going to cancel my Sky today. Came to the realisation that I am paying a ridiculous amount to watch live sport and actually more and more of the live sport I watch is on BT sport which I pay for separately with my broadband and can still get through my Sky Box if I cancel. Things I will miss from Sky sports are the odd PL match, cricket & nfl. NFL I am probably better off getting game pass as I pretty much just watch Redzone anyway.

Cancelling this month. Had enough of our joke £120+ bill each month. They must use our account as an example to train new sales guys at Sky in how much they can rip people off.

Trying to convince my o/h to ditch sky... It's far too much for what it is. Rely on it a bit though as most of what is watched, is on services like Amazon Prime, but the internet is so damn slow it's not viable for regular use :(

Could have prime, netflix, and now-tv for less than the monthly sky bill!

^^ Why not do what i did and downgrade it to the absolute minimum required to keep the box (and therefore look/feel) going along with the convenient recording etc. :)

With a half price deal this is £10pcm for the "Original" pack which doesnt seem too bad for the convenience/slickness of a sky box system.

(I am actually on a 60% off + £100 account credit deal which they were running last year so it is nearly totally free as the £8pcm is only very slowly eroding the upfront account balance) - I doubt this is replicable at the moment but it may come back. 50% off is always around.
