*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I received a 50% off deal for the past year but have used the TV about once or twice a month for music in the background so figured may as well cancel it.

I ordered Sky last May, my first bill was 20 May 2015 for 19 May - 18 Jun, my next bill (19 May - 18 June) will be double what I currently pay.

If I phone them now and request to cancel, will this be effective 27th May (as you require 1 month notice I believe)? or will they attempt to charge me for early termination (as my contract isn't up until 19th May, although I've just paid the bill for the last month prior to this contract end date)?

So ultimately if I cancel now I imagine I'll only be billed for 8 days in May (until the 27th) further to what I've already paid?

You have to give 30 days notice so should be no early termination fee, you just pay till the 27th May.

I'm going to need to talk to them again, my cancellation comes into effect 5th May, had no contact from them and can't get any offers via the upgrades page. I dislike the amount I pay but just cannot quite get the setup I'd want outside of them.

We really need some competition in the market, virgin just don't count IMO given their reach and lack of expansion plans.

anyone else use Sky Go Extra ?

ever since last update - all my content starts around 5 minutes from end of programme - its very annoying and have no idea why its doing it

these are all programmes I've never watched before

What device Buckster, or is it across all devices as that's something I've never heard of.

Does the sky box do some kind of defrag occasionally ? Mine for about an hour last night was making a hell of a racket, I thought the drive was dying but it shut up after about an hour and has been fine since. ..

My sky is due to run out soon, as i cancelled with them. What alternatives do poeple go for?

I was thinking of getting a youview box and then Now TV for Sky Atlantic.

My experience with Now TV is that it sucks. I found programs constantly buffering and the picture quality generally poor.

The new boxes that allow ethernet are a 100 times better, i get no buffering or stuttering when watching a film or sky sports, and the passes for £10 for 3 months can't be beaten.

I only did testing over a couple of weeks, but I found NowTV worked just fine without any buffering. It was that test that means I'm now going to cancel subscription Sky and move to FreeView/NowTV.

Lightning strike killed our Sky router last night - they want to charge us £69 to replace it despite the fact it's under a year old. Another reason to add to the long list of why i won't be giving Sky any money again after contact is up.

Activate your trust and send me a message so I can look into this please Xenon.

Plunge completed yesterday. Wanted to give notice so that my subscription would finish at the end of May.
Went through online chat - we're only on the Family Bundle and HD I believe, £36 now, £38 from June.
They offered me my existing bundle for £25 or drop me to the Original bundle which would give me all the channels I wanted, just not in HD, for £20.
Told them I really didn't want to pay more than £20 for the bundle I already had - couple of exchanges later and the cancellation has gone through.
30th May - Sky subscription switches off and we enter the world of FreeView & Now :)

Can you do cancellations on online chat?

I always thought it was phone only.

Nope you can do it via live chat. Although when I did it they kept saying "would you prefer an immediate call back to discuss things".

Also if your after a deal don't give them a benchmark to work off i.e. don't tell them something like "I can get a similar deal with BT for X amount"

LOL
Cancelled yesterday.
Logged into my account today:

"We hate goodbyes, so we've got an exclusive offer for you to stay with Sky TV. Get 50% off any Sky+ TV Bundle for 12 months when you sign up for another year. Standard pricing applies thereafter at £20 – £75.75 pm."

So despite them not being able to offer me what I wanted during the online chat yesterday, I can today click a link and get my current bundle for £17/£19 for the next 12 months.

Sorted then :)
