*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

I ended up taking a 30% off for 5 years deal. I only have the Family Bundle, so works out OK plus I don't have to phone up every year trying to get a better discount or forgetting and paying full price for a month or longer. I dropped the movies as I found I was just watching stuff I have on my NAS anyway.

I really don't understand sky's business model when customers are finding that others have better deals leaving some to pay through the nose and others getting it half price, that must know that people will get wind of this and andfind that they are going to have unhappy customers who will want to leave especially when there are other ways and means of watching they channels.

ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) is the important figure. Sky now have more than 12 million customers who take over 21 million individual services from Sky. Churn is also down to its lowest level in 10 years. So please tell me what's so wrong with Sky's business model, because it seems to be going OK to me?

Sky have also just signed the first Pan-European deal (UK & I, Germany and Austria and Italy) deal with a major US movie studio, including exclusive rights and 'first release' for all upcoming Sony movies including UHD content. The deal means any Sony movie released as well as the back catalogue will only be available through Sky's services. https://corporate.sky.com/media-cen...nce_first_major_pan_european_movies_agreement

That seems a pretty fair deal IMHO!

Our current deal will be ending soon, and if I can get something like that I'll be happy!

People just seem to be cottoning on that they are paying over the odds for advert-laden content that their mate at work is getting for half the price they are paying. As more and more people get used to quitting and using it as a bargaining chip, the business model that relies on customer apathy and inertia will seem less effective.

Sky need more competition it must be said.

Most people will never see a thread on a forum like this, so will carry on paying through the nose as they know no better. I paid full price for well over 15 years, must have been thousands of pounds!

...and that's the nail on the head...

Why would Sky bother spending lot of money changing their systems/approach when 90%+ of their users simply pay what they're told to due to lack of knowledge or sheer apathy?

Only when more people cotton onto the fact you can phone up and threaten to cancel to cut your bill my 30-50%, or indeed actually cancel and sign up in alternating people's names to get even bigger discounts, will Sky finally feel there's enough value in changing their systems...

I'll be phoning up when my current deal ends in a couple of months and playing the silly game again of, "I want to cancel due to ...." to get another discount again...

My deal is coming to an end (discounted Fibre pro, calls, telephone etc) so going to hit up the chat shortly and see what I can get.

I'd be happy with 30% for 5 years etc - that's not bad.

Got £100 credit and a decent reduction last time round

We are paying over £100 a month for sky with 3 boxes. Is it worth phoning them when the contract ends like people have mentioned above?

Either phone them and get a decent discount or switch to Q Silver which, with two mini boxes and Sports/Movies, would still be cheaper.

Slightly off topic but, why don't pubs start using now tv to show sports? Wouldnt need a contract so they could save the sports package fee in the summer.

Err, because they can't?

Pubs will have a totally separate licensing deal with Sky - they don't just pay for a standard consumer contract with Sky Sports and then stick it on the TV in the bar.

That's expensive

£85.50 actually. £47.50 for Sports Bundle and £38 for Movies Bundle.

£80 for complete bundle for new customers plus whatever perk you take on, TV or tablet then £38 for the Family Bundle. Then isn't there a £11 fee for HD? Then if you're also a Sky Talk customer with Fibre, £20 a month. Line rental £17.40. Of course then multiscreen, an extra £11 something per box. Let alone the installation fee, not including Sky Q.

Sky Fibre Pro is £30 a month over and above the £17.40 line rental.

How is this, I pay £117 a month for 2 boxes including my fibre pro so your saying if goto sky q it would be cheaper?

Well Q Silver is £88.50 with Sports & Movies and an extra £99 one-off for a second mini box so, if the broadband is less than £28.50 you're quids in :)

Has to be close either way, my point was you should either be able to get a good discount on your current setup or move to Q for much the same outlay
