*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

To be honest I don’t believe this. Although I don’t have access to the new pricing and even if he’s out of contract there’s no way he’s paying £100 per month.

So, sorry about that - the price I am moving to is £99.99 - what's a few pence between people eh?

Sky Entertainment - £29
Ultimate on Demand - £3
Sky HD - £6
Sky Q Multiscreen Pack - £14
Sky 3D - Free
See it first - Free

Sky Talk Line Rental - £18.99
Sky Fibre Max - £29

So yes, I am moving to £100 in a month or so time when I go out of contract without having any premium content. Any other questions?

I'd take what ever they say with a pinch of salt given their affiliation with the company, that can seemingly do no wrong, even if they are still charging for HD in 2020 and that is fine. ;) :p

You can save straight away on your broadband by moving to Sky Superfast. There are also discounts for re-contracting.

regarding HD I agree that charging extra for it isn’t right but I don’t make the rules. And there are still around 500k people running boxes that aren’t capable of HD. Should we be charging them extra for a service they can’t use? That lost income will need to be made up somewhere.

Lost income...

LMFAO.

Lost income would be caused by alerting those people on legacy packages that are over paying massively for their service, when they can just leave them paying over the odds for a non-HD service, and ADSL at £40+ a month etc.

Sky's worst fear is legacy customers and people like Stoofa above noticing they are being ripped off, it has nothing at all to do with the revenue loss from making HD cost nothing.

Excuses, excuses, and company apologists, you would think they work for a political party the spin they put on things.

When you charge extra for something then decide to make it ‘free’ then that lost income needs to be clawed back from somewhere? Nothing is free. If they include HD in Entertainment or the new Signature package it’s price will rise.

Charging for something that according to you "isn't right" in the first place...

You should apologise for calling stoofa a liar by the way.

Correct, and that's what's got the SKY shill so upset, stoofa realised he was getting conned, to which the shill's response was "You're a liar"...

SKYSCAM TV exposed for what it is.

Stoofa isn't 'being conned', he's paying the standard, advertised price. Yes it's a lot of money, I agree, but people should remember it's a voluntary service and what value you get from it may be different to other people's value. I may have come across as a little brisk, but I didn't call him a liar. And he's not paying over £100 either, for which he apologised. There's no harm done,. but it would be fairly easy for Stoofa to save some money by re-contracting even without playing hardball and cancelling. If he wants to save more money he can certainly ask to speak with cancellations or reduce his package.

You did call him a liar, and he didn't apologise, he was being sarcastic. Your pedantry isn't saving you here, people know what was said, to whom, by whom and what was meant by it. You didn't like someone slagging off/being dissatisfied with your precious sky and you dived in to defend them.

So my fibre/phone line price is going up and sky have said I can cancel within 30 days of receiving the email. Is there any chance I would be able to stay with them but remove the minimum term or will the only options be stay and be tied in for the rest of my contract or leave now?

If you notify them of your intention to leave then they can give you 30 days to find a new provider. If you don't in that time I believe you're back in contract.

Does one have any luck negotiating new customer prices that may be cheaper than those advertised on the site?

I have a friend who can offer a Sky F&F code, but these seem to have not updated from the current 35% offer in some time. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems a lot longer than usual since there were any new offers.
He doesn't seem to know when, or what, the new offers may be.

As it stands, the 35% discount doesn't really save me any money, given that this discount will only be based on the full price and that the package I want is already discounted to around a similar reduction anyway.
Add on to that the fact I'd be able to get c. £100-£115 from cashback too on the standard pricing, makes the 35% F&F offer pretty redundant.

I cancelled my Virgin deal last month when my introductory offer expired there, so I'm now looking at a cutoff of 20th March where it's either going to be a monthly data dongle or tethered mobile internet for me and the misses for a while!

There are no sky F&F codes at the moment due to the basic sky package change. We expect something this week but nothing yet.

Ah I see, thanks.
Well that's hopefully positive news then.

Wishful thinking maybe, but given the time and work that Sky put into their customer and data analytics, which they're experts at, it may be that the F&F deals could be particularly good when they pop up.
Reason I say this, is that 18 month contracts taken now, will take customers through 2 offseasons and renewal will come up just as the 2021/22 football season kicks off.

Fingers crossed the deals are absolute stonkers.

Had my price increase letter - a total of +£4 per month for exactly the same service. It works out at about nine percent.

I was already getting a bit irritated that I'm having to rent the Sky Q box with no option to own or buy, so I'll have to check out when my contract runs out and see what the alternatives are (e.g. BT where at least you end up with a usable PVR at the end of the contract). The main problem will be that I have an overlapping Sky Cinema subscription that I think expires at a different time.

Yeah they wanted an extra 10% from me this year to sign up again, and no doubt another 10% next year, so a 20% increase over the life of the contract. I told them to get ******. I'm now SLY free and not missing it 1 iota. Once you've left you realise you were paying a forutune every month/year for a load of old *****.

:)

Also received the email today to say they are going to put my package up by £4 per month.

I have however just received the £175 cashback through topcashback which more than offsets what I paid for installation so I might well ring them up and threaten to cancel, given I only took the package out at the end of Oct 2019

I definitely know this! I spend more time paging up and down the channel list than I do watching anything. Trouble is, my wife likes the ease of Sky Q.

I had a look at my account on Sky.com and there's no indication when my contract expires. There's a surprise.
