*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Just had an email from Sky. I cancelled mine a month of so ago, maybe a little longer. In addition to my.sky.com offering me 50% the next twelve months, they are trying to reel me back in with a 33% off for the next 5 years!

To be honest, it's no problem cancelling and then signing back up with the 50% offer you get. If they simply offered the 50% off for the 5 years, I'd do it.

some of the deals you guys are getting on here are unreal.

I used to pay £30 but now it looks like I've been paying £46 for the last 3 months, presumably my offer ran out. It's £7.50 for unlimited broadband, £21.50 for Original package and £16.50 for line rental. I think an extra £1 for voicemail too.

Shall I just call and cancel and see what they offer?

Yours is quite complicated as you have the broadband tied in (why they like the broadband aspect) - so if you are calling to cancel you need to be clear who you would be moving to. You could be just cancelling the other deals - but you have to be ready to cancel :)

Now TV is a good backup if you end up without sky and theirs is a month to month deal - its pretty good anyway though if you have the media devices to play it.

I'm actually on a rolling month to month now (I think this is standard after letting a Sky contract expire) - So despite being ripped off paying £46 I do like the rolling contract element. Presumably to negotiate any sort of deal with Sky I'll be tied in to a 12 month contract. hmm

I'd be surprised if they didn't want to pull you into a 12 month contract as part of the deal. That said if you can pull it to 50% of that its worth the punt imho

Phoned last week and cancelled as my half price TV contract had come to an end, I've been paying £16.50 p/m up until now.

The person I spoke to on the phone offered me the same package that im on at the minute for the excellent price of £30.00. (- £3.00 reduction)

I said thanks for the excellent offer , but no thank you ill just cancel, to which he came back with knocking off another £2.50.

Needless to say its cancelled and goes off on the 4th January.

I'm actually not bothered in the slightest either, Freeview channels will be fine and the kids have Netflix in their bedroom so they're covered.

The annoying thing about all this is that there's no consistency whatsoever, it depends who you talk to, what time of day, whether they had a decent breakfast blah blah blah.

That's unlucky, I just kept saying no and the price keep on going down to £18, I even get to keep the HD package add on!

i wouldnt be bothered either but I'm getting hassle of the wife as my son doesnt have disneyxd any more and theres no way of getting it without a sub, no offers received for me which I have a feeling is because they gave me broadband free for a year when I cancelled the tv, debating on trying the virgin 50% thing posted a little while back

Don't forget NowTV will give you the main sky channels at a fraction of the price of the Sky Satellite deal and if they ever came back to you cancel it.

I use Chromecasts for publishing the NowTV streams (and netflix) around the home

Disney is great ;) hehe

I've just subscribed to the full belt and braces multiview package for the new home. Didn't get much of a discount really, well, free phone for a year and a free engineer visit/free box etc. Also got cheaper broadband. But taking into account I'll now be able to ditch BT and their monthly line rental/broadband package it balances out throughout the year.

Can't your wife sign up as a new customer?

It would only go through if I put it in her maiden name, not sure about the bank details either as there are boxes to tick to say to confirm its your account etc but she obviously doesnt have any bank details in that name any longer suppose I could try it and see what happens, also can I have two seperate direct debits set up paying sky or would I have to change to a different account/ card?

All the offers are decided by the system, there's very little 'optional' offers that the person you speak to can give out or not.

They must monitor your usage, and then make offers accordingly. Therefore if they can see you watch it a lot, uses sky+ a lot, download lots of on demand stuff then they know you are more sucked in.

If you hardly used it, the system might think you don't need it, and can make a better offer.

A theory anyway.

possibly as when I was cancelling they were asking all sorts of things about my viewing habbits

Same, I told them the truth, I watch mostly the news and Friends re-runs on Comedy Central, told them I have it on Bluray too. Used Sky On demand I think like twice. Basically said I don't use it that much and if they do collect data, it would reflect that.
