*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Ditched Sky subscription last month, never watched anything on it so it was just a complete waste of money.

What with Freeview HD, PLEX and all the iPlayer, 40D etc, Amazon Prime etc. we're never short of quality programming

Not sure amazon prime fits in that list :) Was very disappointed in what they had to offer. Personally I have Now TV (Entertainment and movies)/Netflix and Freeview....more than enough with that lot.

It's gone, all they offered me was £10 off for 10 months on a new 12 month contract. I had already reduced my package to just the variety a couple of months back but, like others, the little I watch is available for a lot less on Now TV.

I also managed to get my package reduced from £38 to £28 for the next 10 months into a new 12 month contract, better than nothing!

My problem is I'm on a legacy HD package that they don't do anymore. When HD was originally released I took it up and got F1 for free. You now need to pay for Sky Sports to get F1...

If I was to get a reduction I think I'd need to go onto a regular package which would ultimately mean more ££££.

Just called up to cancel.

£33 a month.

No thanks.

£28.50 a month?

No thanks

£27 a month?

No thanks.

£26 a month?

No thanks, i can justify what I am paying now £16.50 but £26 is too much, if you can renew it for another year I will consider it.

"Sorry we can't, that means you would have technically got another year free."

So I said, "that's a shame, I guess I will have to cancel"

"£18 a month?"

Deal. :D

It's not quite 50% off but close enough without interruption and faff.

Haha, my conversation went pretty much the same.

"£10 off?"

"That's still quite a bit more than I'm paying at the moment, can you put through a cancellation on my account for in 31 days while I see what other options are available"

"Ooh, another offer has just popped up when I've tried to process that cancellation - how does £18/month sound?"

I just called to cancel and after 27 minutes, finally cancelled. The call was desperate and I even told them so.

A few examples...

If you cancel now, your contract will end on Christmas eve and then what are you going to do for Christmas TV?!

How will you watch F1 without Sky F1?
Go to the pub and watch it.
Do you know how much a pint costs these days? You'll spend all your money in the pub.

You know Freeview isn't as good?

How are you going to record your TV?

Who else is going to give you a discount? Nobody because they won't make any profit.

I can give you £5 off a month.
No.
I'm going to speak to my manager.
Ok.
I can give you £10 off a month.
No.
Hold the line.
Ok.
I can give you 20% off Sports and HD with no contract for 8 months.
No.
But you were on a new customer offer and because of that we have already saved you £360.
Ok but I didn't save it all ready to give back to you.

...and so it went on.

Sounds exactly like my annual Sky deal call, I made mine a couple of weeks back and never have they bleated on for so long, spewing nothing but pathetic reasons why I shouldn't cancel.

In the end retentions put me on my usual Sky Entertainment+, HD channels and Movies for £25 a month for 12 months with no contract, only thing I lost is Sky F1 which I hate anyway.

Ahhh! So you were on the old legacy HD package were you? Me too!

I love my F1 channel so really don't want to lose it!

Sky's retentions training has put a major focus on the product and value rather than just giving an offer. The offers have also been reduced to try and stop the bluffers.

Yeah thats what I had, when I said I hate it I was referring to the Sky F1 channel, I like the F1 but choose to watch the BBC coverage even though its mostly highlights only I still enjoyed it more than Sky's efforts.

Interesting... I actually find Sky's presenters/format far more interesting than BBC's :)

Finally half cancelled. Flat mates still want TV downstairs so kept that, but downgraded to original. Multiroom, sports, movies, sky go extra all axed. Not interested in an offer as looking to move in ~6months and then get rid off it totally.

For me though, nowtv, Netflix, amazon prime and free sat.
Cut the bill in half. Which is substantial saving as cost of phone/internet hasn't changed.

Gives me an extra £70 a month to spend elsewhere, as I was paying for the sports/movies and now they're paying for the lounge box on their own.

I wonder how many phone calls they've had today now that the F1 has finished. That just kept me in. Plan for next year is watch the ones on BBC, and the ones BBC don't have. Is buy cheap nowtv sport passes just for the race.

Might have to try this...

So if you cancel, am I right in saying you have 30 days to change your mind?

So if I were to cancel (I don't want to)... twenty or so days later I can just phone up and change my mind?

I'm calling later to do the same thing - ditch the sports (now that F1 has finished) and movies as i don't have time to watch them.

Should save at least £30/35 a month - down to basic package as it's mainly the kids that watch their channels
