Skyrim remastered free for pc if you own skyrim already

I own Skyrim, it's in my Steam Library, but the new version isn't showing up, I have to buy it?? I thought it was free if you owned the original/

No I only have the base version. Well, it's no problem. I was only curious to see what it was going to be like.

It's definitely not worth £30.

This game is not free. PC users will get it free if they have already bought the previous game plus all DLC.

If you want this game for PC, it's £30. If you want it for XBone or PS4 it'll be more than £30.

This game should be as well optimised and visually pleasing as any other game that's expected to sell for £30+ in 2016. I have SLI, Gsync, Ultrawide and the judder is constant to a point where it's unplayable. The visuals leave a lot to be desired for a release this year. I mean, they haven't even updated the textures.

And they want people to pay £30 for this?

I think it looks great. Pretty chuffed with it as I've never thrashed Skyrim's content properly as always felt vanilla was missing something, mainly the graphics which always led me to heavily mod it. Sadly the modding ended up with me getting greedy with gameplay enhancements/overhauls that eventually broke the game despite best efforts to correct it and even with the help or mod authors and Nexus experts could never get it working. Don't feel tempted at all to mod this, so if anything now seems to be a pretty damn good excuse to blast through it all.

Do really wish they'd of done something with the FOV and UI though, I know they never promised anything but putting a permanent FOV slider would have been great (FOV resets when entering menus) and a new UI would have been even better. Hell even throw some money at the SkyUI guys to have it integrated into the remake! Still, won't complain too much, got this for free and they've done a good job with the graphics bar the slightly low res skin/clothing textures.

I'll be honest I have not played it yet as it was too late last night but i only have a heavily modded version to compare against so I aint holding up much hope its gonna look amazing.

Just hope this is a new start fro modders and the lift on restriction on 32bit means they can make some really good new mods.

I really hope the remaster and enhanced modding capabilities brings Obscuro back, his Oblivion overhaul was absolutely sublime.

This is when I will probably get sunk into this, when the modders get a hold of it and make it the game it should be.

Maybe we could do with a separate modding thread?

I paid roughly 5 quid for the legendary edition (the one with the DLC included). It was so cheap I bought it for my son too. We now both have a free graphics update - nothing more, nothing less.
I may dabble once the ultra widescreen is sorted but I know this is the exact same game underneath it all. I do love that game but I don't think it'll mean I spend another 200+hours in it again.

Comparison between the original and the remaster:

I have to say, I prefer the look of the original in many scenes. I always liked Skyrim's very cold, desaturated look, but the remaster looks much warmer and more colourful thanks to the new lighting. It's a little bit overdone IMO. I'm sure there'll be plenty of mods to tweak it to everybody's taste though, and the new base for that should allow even better things.

Looks like mods are coming in thick and fast... only 24 files on nexus last night but now over 240.. seems texture mods are pretty easy to move across. its the script stuff thats going to take longer like mods that require SKSE

There's a new Nvidia driver relased:

Might as well update again then for the fun of it :)

375.70 WHQL out and about

Driver hasn't helped any issues with 3440*1440 although that isn't expected to be fixable with a driver.

is the EXE named the same as the old version? if it is Flawless widescreen may pick it up automatically and fix it..

I play at 2580x1080 21:9 and have no problems with menus

I also have to set my screens res in the INI file not in the launcher
