Just thought YOLO. I don't plan to upgrade for a long time and I've been really strict with my self in the last year or two to not upgrade random stuff so thought "Treat Yo self". I went with the Hero over the K7 for a couple of reason. I really like Giga boards but the last 3 have had very laggy bios which has made tweaks annoying, setting up adaptive voltage was super complex for me compared to Asus and the m.2 drive slot on the K7/K5 is under the GPU which seems like a little bit of an oversight RE heat. I think the sensible money is still probably the 1700 but for the sake of 70£ over the next couple of years or so I thought what the hell. The board will see a CPU upgrade or two so I thought may as well go for the top tier.
Pooley The hero bundle Got a discount & also the Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero got the AM3 /AM4 Holes , Nice bundle
ordered a 1700 but i am toying with the idea to go X lol
thanks for the heads up darren

1800x Asus crosshair hero 2x16gb 3200 corsair memory.
Already got the cooler, noctua d15s.
Very excited to be getting rid of my 3770k and hoping this will increase my fps with my 980ti.

I have thought about that switch too. But looking at the pre-oc'd budles from a competitior, the 1700 & 1700X are both at the same OC. Only the 1800X is higher. So just gonna stick with 1700 for the sake of 400 MHz / £180.

just looked at those bundles, i thought they would have clocked the 1700x higher tbh..

edit: the 180 saved can get you a mobo :o voice of reason, cheers heh

I'm either going balls out 1800X on an Asrock Taichi or being much more conservative and waiting for R5 to drop and going one below flagship level motherboard and a 1400X (half the cores, threads and cache of a 1800X, only 100 mhz slower) and see how everything pans out for a year or so, upgrade to 1700X or similar at a later date if the platform remains good.

Depends how it all shakes out in a week and from then on out (and when I get bored of saving, me and the missus keep strict personal spend budgets so there's plenty to throw at mortgage overpayments).

none at those prices.. isn't the idea to compete with intel?

im with you I kinda think its a lot of money

years ago a top end cpu was £700 when did they shoot up to £1000+

the only good thing from these cpus for me is the competition it will bring and im looking for the prices to drop

without that i guess im using this chip for a very long time

Initial suggestion seems to be the 1800X is the better overclocker, so will likely go with that though still going to wait on full reviews.

i've been living under a rock. only just heard about this. very tempted with the 1700 for a server cpu. 8 cores and 16 threads would be awesome for something like plex or emby.

Looking forward to a 1700 non x myself, on Asus prime pro.

Only hoping for 4ghz.

If that's sustainable on the stock cooler, I may say bye bye to watercooling.

Do we know anything about what temps are OK for Ryzen? And voltages?

Same - just about to press the Pre-order button, but there is a voice in my head saying wait :)

Upgrade the graphics card instead for far better performance increase?

I've ordered the 1800X, Asrock Taichi mobo, H110i AIO as it is AM4 ready out the box with no need to order/request an AM4 conversion kit. I have RAM and an M.2 SSD ready to drop in. Can't wait!!
