and wasn't going to change the whole system he turned us around with for the last 2 years overnight...

the players he put out should easily be beating mk dons !

Yes he could. Nugent's been meh all season. Kike was scoring, he got benched (then stopped scoring).
You don't pay 9M to bench the damn player in the Championship.

Karankas stubbornness is a constant thorn in our side. Every time he says he'll make changes, he knows what's wrong. It's the same crap.

For all the good he's done, he can't escape valid criticism.

Good win for Wednesday.

Absolutely no question over the red card, despite what the Brentford manager complains about, absolutely loved that he criticised the referee for 'being forty yards away' and unable to see properly whereas he could see just find from even further away :D.

Brentford did quite well for 10-15 minutes after the red card, but it was all one way traffic after that and Wednesday could have had more goals. Number 28 and 15 look excellent throughout for Brentford but the rest were poor.

Wednesday were sloppy at times too, frustrating. Solid win though.

Yeah, bit hypocritical from Smith there. Didn't think it was a nailed on red card, as Hooper had lost control of the ball and wouldn't have been able to get a shot away/the ball had rolled through to Button. Either, way I can see why it was given but to be fair to Smith, the ref has to be absolutely sure of it as he was 50 yards away and the linesman 20 yards away didn't give it.

I didn't make it yesterday, but sounds like we were well beaten and stopped defending properly after the 10th minute. We've now conceded 8 without reply and our three strikers have scored once in the last 2 months combined!

I sort of see where you are coming from, although I think this was a text book red card :) , my biggest gripe is not with the decision making of the referee though. Why did your defender not just attempt to keep pace and allow your goalkeeper to come out? The decision making of the defender was terrible. I sort of think it is largely irrelevant if Hooper was in total control of the ball or not, he was denied the change of having the shot one on one with the goalkeeper.

Also; don't be too negative, you were competitive for a good fifteen minute spell after the red card and created a couple of good chances, however when the second goal went in you could see what little confidence they had just drain away. Although I would not expect many sides to cope well with having a man sent off after 5 minutes at our place this season, for a change we are excellent at home. I was impressed and complimentary of Brentford last season when they played Wednesday, they looked worse this season (granted with the conditions) but still a good side and did look it as the game kicked off, of those first five minutes Brentford were very attacking and looked sharp.

As I said, despite this your number 15 and 28 looked good throughout (until one was subbed off).

Strangely enough, the Sky commentator and the guys on Soccer Saturday all said it wasn't a penalty at the time - I can see why it was given but it was a little soft. If Hooper doesn't have control of the ball (which I personally don't think he did) then it's not a goal-scoring opportunity that our defender is denying.

With regards to the defender, I a) don't think he realised Hooper would throw himself to the floor after such little contact and b) has only just come into the side with Tarkowski going to Burnley - he's not played in England before this season, so was very naive to put Hooper under any sort of pressure when behind him. Being one nil down with 85 mins to play is a much preferable scenario than being one man down with 85 mins to play. I seriously don't get why players seem to not understand this point.

We are a worse side than last season unfortunately, but it's not the end of the world. We simply don't have the revenue to compete in this division, and we probably only had one shot to surprise the other teams in this division whilst also being good players on the cheap. No one is surprised by us this season/undermines us, whereas we're getting quoted silly money and silly wages in order to sign players. Hopefully with the relaxation of FFP next season we'll give it a proper go.

Wednesday are obviously spending a fair bit in terms of transfers and wages, but you've had a cracking couple of transfer windows - Bannan and Forrestieri have to be among the buys of the season in the Championship.

Decent game. Bridcutt, Cook and Diag were brilliant. Just imagine if we had three equally good attackers in front of them....we have Doukara! would have taken a draw before the game!

Ayala, Gibson and Clayton missing now. Eek. Rhodes got pretty much nothing in terms of service as expected.

5 games on the bounce is when he should be changing the mentality/set up. But he doesn't, and probably won't.

Ayala is meant to be "okay".

Besides, I'm happy with Fry/Kalas as CB's, otherwise Fry/Ayala.

I'd go for 4-3-1-2 personally.

We have enough quality in the squad where rotation isn't a weakness. But it seems like Karanka has one system, and tries to change one player in place of another, playing that same system.

'Cause 'Boro play boring, defensive football.

Thought Leeds shaded that for me, Cook was excellent, Leeds should take enormous confidence from that performance.
