Soccer sickies

Unfortunately we're struggling to cover the contracts we have due to driver shortages. Because of the constant attack on drivers and persistantly using covid as an excuse to circumvent terms and & condition contracts so we end up working longer and with shorter breaks/rest periods.

The latest fight we are currently having is that they want to make us take CPC courses in our own time, despite being in the base contract that it was on company time.
I am hearing that agency rates for drivers is on the increase. Maybe consider a new employer or contract work?

All of our drivers are direct employed (Bus company). The only agency workers in the business are in our engineering dept, which is where most of the problems lie as vehicles don't get maintained properly and breakdown whilst in service. That's part of the mismanagement at my company.

The sickies were worth it for nytbody taking that risk. But don't get your hopes up too high, there's still the final and England usually lose in the final/semi-final.

Looks like it s two consolation bottles of Heineken for Denmark then a victory Kronenbourg for England. then

Going to be plenty of people going on sick but they won't be faking it, this Sunday will be a text book definition of a superspreader event.

Not so much the stadium but the millions in pubs and houses mixing.

I used to just book holiday, e.g. WC 2002 was in Asia so a lot of day time matches so made sure I was on holiday for the England games.

These games are all in the evening/weekend so no worries for most (not all) workers, only one that was a bit dodgy was the 5pm weekday game.

It'll be fine, it's not like we're relaxing all the restrictions in a couple of weeks as well :D

This must be related to the football:

Tried to do a live chat on Furniture Village website to chase an order - Live chat unavailable

Tried calling them, when you hit option 2 to speak to somebody about an existing order you don't go in to a queue like normal, there's just a 'beep. beep. beep' engaged tone.

There's nobody in!

It just shows the attitude though when the commentator last night was glibly advising people to celebrate and just take a sickie today

Lol, today is nothing compared to Monday if we win. If the final on Sunday goes into extra time and penalties, the match might not end til almost 11pm, if we win that will mean the celebrating will only start at 11pm on Sunday night. Should we win on Sunday, I expect an enormous impact to the productivity of workers on Monday :D

Yup, if there’s not a mega spike in 2-3 weeks time, I’ll be very surprised.

I don’t know why the final is at 8pm on a Sunday. If it has to be Sunday at least make it more of a reasonable time, like 4 , 5 or 6pm kick off.

Because people who watch football are the last on the list to be considered. It's advertising and sponsors. The adverts will command more £££ in the evening, the sponsors get a whole day and evenings entertainment and they're not bothered about the hangovers on Monday.

Is it on BBC here btw?

Edit - Ah it's on both. Still part of "The Crown Jewels".

ok but why not a saturday night? Uefa moved the champions league final from wednesday nights to saturday nights so that more kids could watch the finals so by that logic they should move this final to the saturday.

Yeah. I think that's genuinely an attempt to even up the extra rest day from the Tuesday SF.
