Social club hacked, Change passwords

TBH Im amazed Anonymous hasn't claimed responsibility yet, or the 'lizard squad' considering how badly our pc version OWNS the console versions, someone must be upset.
My housemates saw me playing GTA V on my PC, about a week ago, and none of them have played GTA since (console owners).. People will be upset we are destroying them

This is depressing - let's hope this was a poor management decision until they worked out how they were dealing with this.

Am now annoyed people are getting replies after 24 hours and my tickets been going for 4 days with no replies at all. Meh, just a simple reply from a human would be nice!

Am going to phone them today and see what the crack is.

You use a password storage tool I assume?

It's got ridiculous now having to remember unique passwords mentally, especially as I'm not Dominic O'Brien (world memory champion). But using a password tool seems to add another potential vulnerability. Especially with people saving it on a cloud service.

I use unique passwords but by memory, it's made up of gibberish but at the end I change it to reflect the website, so for example Jh9#lll!1ocuk.

It's annoying when sites say you can't use special characters, can't use 3 in a row, need a minimum amount of/maximum amount. Just let me use what I want and have been for 15 years without a problem.

It's harder to remember passwords though when you can't use what you want, I don't like the idea of password managers and not actually knowing them off by heart when I'm not at a PC with it set up or something, never used em though so I don't know what I'm missing :P

You can just stick them down on a text file on your PC, not obviously named and on a different partition....

The likelihood of someone stripping your PC and finding it is so remote. If they do, then you have been compromised on a massive scale and your passwords are the least of your worries....

I'd caution against this if you share your PC, even if you have a different account on it. If you are the only one who ever uses your PC fine, otherwise steer clear. Also remember that if your PC is stolen and it's not encrypted you've just handed over a lot of information especially if you've put the PC in in "Lazy mode" by disabling UAC, autologging in etc.

Also if you have the option ensure you always use two factor authentication for e-mail accounts, this alone can massively improve your security on all sites as only you can recover the password etc. A lot of people think two factor will be a pain, it's really not.

At least encrypt the text files if you do this, it means you only have to remember the key for the file.

Any updates - anyone had their account returned. Also a thought but is the 24 hours in working hours. So something like 3 working days?

Sorry should have clarified that and you are absolutely both correct

Use word/open office and password protect if you wanting a super secure way of keeping these things secret.

Don't paste passwords in and change key characters on entering...

However a key logger is installed or a clipboard logger then it's moot.

Best way it to steer clear of risk sites.... however, it's pretty clear that no site is secure....

SSL,RSA anybody LOL

This is now getting silly... The way I look at it now is that they have the power to return a stolen item and even having provided proof of ownership arnt doing so. Any lawyers on here that can advise on how they are handling this?

I think before any legal measures, you will have to wait a specific amount of time in order for them to resolve your issue.

It sucks, massively. They should be all over this but they are not.

I think the issue is, who ever has control of your account has control.

Every account highlighted to them should be suspended ASAP. I am not sure this has happened.

Also did I read the person who has control, has deleted outstanding trouble tickets???

By the way, what accounts do people have? existing Xbox, PS, or just new PC accounts.

it seems odd though i get an email regarding an email change but the user id stated is not mine either. i can click on his account and it says it was made in 2008 and he seems to own the 3 games i had on my account. i sent the info they wanted with the cd key also.

the message doesn't make sense either

The email address for your account Tom-Watson has been updated. You will no longer receive email for this account at my email. Email will now be sent to [email protected] instead.

my ticket was just viewed (#3644808) opened 21st

Hi all, Since I started this thread am about to end it, At least my part. I got a email today at 6:30am asking this :

Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support!

We can help with this but just need to verify that you are the owner of the email address you are using to submit this request. Please confirm that you are the owner of this email address by clicking “reply” from your email program and letting us know that you own this email address.

I did this and a few hours later I got this:

Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support.

After reviewing your account history, we have changed the information on your Social Club account as requested. The password has been locked and directions have been sent to you via a separate email with directions for setting a new password. You can also request a password change here: http://******. When choosing a new password, as a good practice please be sure to use a different password from the ones you use anywhere else.

If there are any further questions or concerns about your account, please let us know and we are happy to help.

And finally this :

Rockstar Games Social Club 4/23/2015 7:16:54 AM

Update Password

Your Social Club account password has been reset to protect the security of your account. You need to select a more secure password to continue accessing this account.

All in all, I waited 4 days and I now have my account back with the best damn password ever, Ever I don't know it so yea. Try hacking that you goldfish.

Just happy to have it back and I hope they get to the others here as soon as possible, It sucks waiting and I fear that am going to log into my account to find everything sold and gone RIP.

Great news - let's hope they get round to sorting the rest out. The speed of response suggests to me this is a much bigger issue than they would like anyone to believe. Thanks for giving us all hope. And do let us know if your game is as you left it and if not so will begin the next painful process.

And I wanted to set a 16 digit password and they only take 8 with no special characters ?

Well that's wonderful ¬.¬ Ohwell, Its as good as it will get password wise :P

Lastly, I logged into my account. All my money was there, All my cars, Gear. My char was infact just in the shower, It looks like they never accessed my account at all after changing the password. I think they might have been trying to sell it. But there you go, Everythings all good :D
