Sony Bravia KDL 50 W829

£599 at Curry's at the moment and got John Lewis to price match. Considering ordering this to replace a 3/4 year old, basic/mid range, 40" Samsung in the living room. You guys think it's worth it at this price considering new models will be on there way soon?

I also got a price match yesterday confirmed for £599. The actuall price at JL now is £599 so I've gone and bought it

Wasn't even looking for a TV this time yesterday and now I've just slammed 600 notes on one :D I'm coming from a Sammy b650 37" so I'm guessing I'm going to find this Massive.

I've got my Synology Play hooked up and I'm using Plex (though this applies to Video Station too) and the GUI for it on the TV is kinda crap. No pictures on the icons, everything looks the same etc. Is this as good as it gets or can it be made to look better?

Also the TV guide is pretty much blank unless I go to every channel and let it load briefly. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yeah saw it had dropped officially last night and ordered one :D just measured my current TV and stand and it looks like it's going to be a very tight fit!

I've had this for a week now. Massively impressed for the price point.

I originally wanted the 4k LG but after spending some time comparing the two alongside each other in Richer Sounds settled on this set. Still using standard set-up at the minute but a touch of "vivid" really makes the picture "pop" - not too much though.

Looking forward to seeing what the set can do with a bit of time spent on a proper setup when time allows.

Thinking about getting one of these. Not sure if 50" is not too big however. I'll be sitting roughly 2.5 to 3m away depending on layout I'll go for.
Looking online most places recommend up to 39" at that distance. Thoughts?

At that sort of distance I think 46-50 is a nice size. Put a 40 and 46 side by side, and the 40 looks way too small.

THX recommendation for 50" is 1.5 - 2.2m, at the distance you will be sitting it will in no way be too big.

I've got the 50W8 and we sit approx 2.5m from it. The 50" is perfect in a medium sized room and for the viewing distance. The screen doesn't look stupidly big for the layout or room and still looks good when watching Sky SD TV or Blu Rays. Personally I'm glad I didn't get the 55" as it would've been too big for the room.

Also considering getting this set now it's dropped in price What are the speakers like as I don't have space for a sound system as well.

Would the Samsung EU48H6700 be a worthy rival? Anyone have experience of both?

Mines coming tomorrow between 2pm and 9pm, can't wait :D

Anyone know when it arrives if it comes in its original box or is it inside another box? Don't like the thought of the courier getting a massive box out of his van with 50" Sony bravia plastered all over it.

Just bought one myself, 599 with 5 year warranty. Excellent all round TV for movies and gaming. It has a satellite connection too, but I missed the Humax Freetime function so went back to the dedicated freesat box.
Really good value for money. No ghosting or lag noticed when gaming. I have not got around to tweaking it yet but its a vast improvement over my 3 year old Samsung.
Only issue I have found and not yet found the solution for is around the synching function. It seems to take control of the Humax box and then disable some control slike Options from the remote. I have to go into Sync and re-select TV to get full functionality back. Minor issue though and its probably my settings.

Look for the Bravia Sync settings. On my 905 you can choose which TV settings get replaced by the settings for attached devices.

Anyone got any experience of using the Vogels adapter kit for the vesa bracket btw?

Bit steep at £12.98 but can't find a better/cheaper alternative...

And just a heads up Amazon now do the service bolt kit for approx £8!!

The kit came in the box with mine , so before people buy the kit check your packaging. the vesa measurement is the distance between the mount holes in millimetres ie 400 mm x 400mm
