Sony Bravia KDL 50 W829

Does anyone have motionflow off? I get quite a lot of judder with Netflix so tried turning motion off and it cured it. Image looked smooth and fine coming from the true cinema setting.

I've had my tv for a few months now and these are some of my thoughts:
I find the speakers in mine to be atrocious, which is strange considering the number of people and reviewers saying how good they are. I can only assume their frame of reference is a lot lower than mine. (I've come from an old Panasonic plasma with reasonably large, side speakers.) Thankfully, I use a BD/theatre player, so can bypass them.

The time it takes to turn on and be in a state I can navigate anywhere is shocking. I haven't timed it and it's probably not that long, but it feels like ages.

The IR sensor is blocked by my centre speaker. (I know this is a specific issue to me.)

The fact it won't pass-through DTS via HDMI (ARC) to my theatre system is very annoying.

Seem to have quite a big bit of backlight bleed coming through in all 4 corners now, wasnt like this before Christmas. Will edit later and put up a photo and see if anyone thinks it isnt normal

can someone help me with setup with av amp? I can't get sound through arc back to my dali speakers.

I have a yamaha amp, trying to get my nettop audio working.

Nettop goes into amp, amp has hdmi out connect to tv's hdmi #2 (arc).

I went in to tv sound setting and switched speakers to av setting (whatever the option is that isn't 'tv'), but getting no sound. Can see nettop display ok.

edit:
hmmm, I'm a little worried now. When I navigate in my nettop o/s what should be 'click' sounds are pops (coming through my bookshelf speakers). However when I play an mp3 there is no sound at all.

Have you turned on ARC on the yamaha ?

yes, arc is 'on'

possible hdmi cable (arc compatible) issue?

Try another cable if you have one just to rule it out .. i am just using some old 1.4 hdmi cables and they work fine here.

You defo have Bravia sync control turned on in the tv settings ?

yes, all those settings are on, but it can't see my amp in the devices list.

I have got the nettop sound to play, though! I previously messed with the tv input channel in my amp config, so I put that back to the default of 'av 4'. I'm not sure if this was needed or not, but as I was booting up win xp I got intro music, and o/s sounds were playing better.

I then had a look in xp sound settings and changed the speaker setting to 'surround sound' and voila!

sorry that this appears to have had nothing to do with either amp or tv settings :o

I only have tv through my aerial. If I want to tune it in, I'll have to either get an unnecessary freeview box to connect hdmi to my amp, or plug the aerial directly in and route the audio through toslink/digital out, right? Which is preferable?

edit: Oh, I also have an old dvd recorder (scart connections only) so that is probably another option**. Not sure which way to go...

edit2:
**no scart inputs on av amp, so this wont help with keeping only one hdmi connection to the tv.

Well the main thing is you got it working :p

ARC will pass the sound from the tvs freeview tuner to the amp anyway so no need for extra cables this is how i have mine working :)

Does anyone know if you can have headphones plugged in to the tv, but still use the tv speakers?

On my last panasonic sound still came out of the speakers as well as the headphones. It's annoying having to unplug the headphones physically to use the TV speakers.

Hi

You can have them both on at the same time yes or just tv speakers off and headphones on:)

Its called headphone speaker link under sound options menu;)

Hmm strange did you change speakers option on the tv to audio system ?

yep!
I went in to tv sound setting and switched speakers to av setting (whatever the option is that isn't 'tv'),

Can't get nettop pass through working either - was working with my older TV.

There was an option that was auto/pcm on the tv. I switched to PCM, although no idea what this is. No difference.
