Sony Bravia KDL 50 W829

I ordered the 50w829 this week from a high street retailer but strangely was informed that I could receive an alternative model if stock had run out, with it now being discontinued. I went through with the order anyway hoping they could fulfil my order.

The TV got delivered today, but I didn't get the 50W829, but the new android W805C. In the short time I've used it the picture is great. Its a great set and I guess I was lucky as it ended up costing me £589.99! Only negative is this model doesn't come with any 3D glasses, although I own no 3D content.

Does anyone have any idea if the settings and setup of the W829 are similar to the W805? Being a new set there is not much info about it on the net at the moment, and this is my first Sony TV.

Just noticed this has an external power supply which is odd, how long is the lead from the tv to the brick please?

Its about 1.2-1.5M from the brick to the end of the cable.

H9w do you mount the bloody stand on this, the instructions talk about wall mounting only, and I have no idea how it goes on

You use the same bracket to wall mount and surface mount. You just use different brackets that are supplied. Its pretty simple, here is the quick start guide with the little diagram :)

...unless you meant the Plex app, which you unfortunately need a plex pass for at the moment so I haven't tried that. Using DLNA works fine though.

I could confirm, works perfectly okay with plex pass. Stream over wifi 1080p content without any problem

cheers found the quick start guide in the end, it was stuck to the front side of the TV which I had laying flat

When attempting a wired or wireless setup the Internet Access bit fails, is there a specific primary and secondary dns to enter?

Nvm fixed it, now i need to upgrade the fw. Is that done ota or do I need to find the file and then put it on usb?

Nah the swipe remote is an optional extra and costs about £50.. And no you don't need to do the update it will check and download/install automatically. I think there is an option to force in the settings..

Thanks, couldn't see in the settings what version I was on. If you get time today or tomorrow could you let me know the procedure to force it please? :)

Mine updated automatically a couple of days ago. Don't know how to force it though.

Must have a play with the settings this week as it's been on default for quite a while.

Anybody wondering what the update did can read about on the support page:)

thanks for that, will check later after a bf4 session with the lads :D

P.S If anyone is still looking for this TV:

I picked the last one from Trafford Centre with a free sound bar for £650. Other stores have them in stock. One guy mentioned in the thread he went in store but they ordered it for him from the main warehouse.

Edit - BF could wait, done the update.

Is there a way to rectify or make the clouding less noticable on the screen? This is how mine looks:

What's the technical term for that anyway, backlight bleeding???

Hi

A guy on the avforums has some success at rectifying his backlight bleeding by applying a little pressure on the screen from left to right with a microfiber cloth but obviously at your own risk:) just dont press to hard.

Sorry but missed this, unfortunately mine is currently off the wall as I am decorating. Sounds like you are sorted tho.. :)

I'm considering getting a 55W829 as an upgrade to my old Panasonic 42" G30 which came out ~mid 2011. I know this may sound like a stupid question, but will the Sony be an upgrade picture quality wise?

I have mine connected via wired ethernet, but even though network status shows connected, I can't access the app services. A little bar in the top right just keeps scrolling but everything checks out fine. Is it a dns problem, if so what shall I enter into the network setting? Thanks

Edit was a dns problem, I set it to primary 8.8.8.8 and. Secondary 8.8.4.4. And it now works after refreshing internet settings in the menu.
