Sony Bravia KDL 50 W829

Read the FAQ on the Sony site for it, says you don't have to connect it to the internet, as watched a video earlier, and it said on there to use the Tv, you have to, but thats only if you want to use the Google services, iplayer and what not. :p

My Sony is just sitting there in its box until we move house, hurts me everytime I walk past it, the missus has laid down the rules to not open it until we're moved. Hopefully in about 2 weeks!

Shes in! :D, and shes bloody huge!

Interestingly, its only supposed to have Freeview HD in it, so with me watching the Freesat HD, i got a Freesat HD box to go with it (old Tv has it built in), but noticed on the Tv, its got a satellite input as well, so not sure if i can watch the Freesat through it, so not needing a Freesat box, or if its just a normal sat input.

Can't find anything about it anywhere, just mentions in the bumpf its got the sat input.

Just need to sort the picture out now, get it how id like it. :p

If it's like the 905, it's got a freesat tuner, but no access to the EPG, making it fairly limited. Sony love to pinch the pennies, so they didn't want to pay for the EPG licence.

Just using the Photo-Standard Picture Mode, which ive tweaked a bit. :)

Looks fantastic :D

I can't decide between the 50w809 or the Samsung hu6400.

Both seem to have their faults but the thread on avforums about the Sony is putting me off a little...any major concerns here?

i have also been looking at a ju6400/6800 Samsungs due to sonys issues been reading the av forums as well. From what i have read all have there faults but i went and had a good look at the Samsung and sonys. was pritty sure i wanted a Samsung when i went in and they are nice good all round .But i came out now wanting a sony picture quality is so much better .so now going to go for going for a KD55S8505.
so all in all go have a look in your local currys/JL that have all the sets out and see how they look and work . reading up about them helps but nothing like getting hand s on

and buy from jl free 5year guarantee and better customer service than most imo so if theres a issue you can get it sorted easyer.

What problems does the Sony suffer from?

I have the 55" and its working great and picture quality after editing the settings is super.

To be fair, that is a TV with another 1 in front of the price so I'd expect it to be better than the Samsung I was looking at lol.

I was tempted to go with a 4k TV for the up scaling but I'm not sure it's worth double over a decent 1080p set

No problems here with mine either, so far.

Paid £670 for it and TBH everyone that has come round thinks it cost loads more. Total steal it is!!
The picture quality is EPIC!

What i like even more is that i dont even need to use the remote as it turns on/off via the Sony DN1050 amp :)

I'm going to check them out in another shop as the currys source was pants. I prefer the look of the Sony and to be fair, most of the 'issues' listed are about the functions rather than picture. There are lots of complaints of the dirty screen thing but seems to be resolved by loosening the rear screws. I will be using my amp to feed the panel anyway so won't be using any of the smart functions
