Sony XF90

This update has completely broken my setup. It’s attached to HT XF9000 soundbar, the matching one for the TV and now when I turn it on, I either get no sound through Sky Q, or not picture. Got to turn the sound bar off and on again, then there is a big delay before both the sound and/or picture return.

Using HDMI 2 for Sky Q with HDMI3/ARC used to the sound bar.

Which version did you have before updating ?

Are you sure you are on the latest fixed oreo update v6.6510 ?

As the previous update oreo version v6.5830 caused issues with the ARC and sound problems appeared on some soundbars and AVRs.

Also you say HDMI 2 for sky Q is that the TV HDMI 2 or the soundbars ? I would plug the sky Q into the soundbar and then the soundbar to the TV ARC and make sure the bravia sync is on as that is basically CEC and click action menu and check the sync options there too as there are some sync stuff there as well as the main system/settings menu.

Make sure to update the soundbar too if there is a firmware update.

I was on the last 7.0 update as never went to Oreo. Got 6.6510 now. I’ve been through all the sync menus etc and it will get it working for a couple of attempts then it just fails again.

I’ll try Sky Q into the sound bar as it’s in the TVs HDMI 2 just now. See if that makes a difference. Thanks

Well as I stated in my post about this new update regarding the dim menus and UI and the colours being off, well some one has proved it regarding the colours.

This update is utter junk and I feel like it has ruined my TV, The colours are off and the dim menus when HDR is on in apps or threw the HDMI is not acceptable. The Original Oreo update was 100% fine for me no issues with sound threw AVR or anything, now I updated to this so called fixed Oreo and has now basically broken peoples TVs in many different ways that are even more unacceptable ways.

Look at all the complaints here on the Sony Forums Germany

https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&u=https://community.sony.at/t5/android-tv/erfahrungen-mit-oreo-atv2-fw-6-6510/m-p/2617735#M36370

Some of the members of AVforums have clearly no idea what they are talking about in there, the regular boffins are saying all is fine and ignore the dim menus LOL, then the others are upset with how the UI, menus, subtitles, colour and also I see signs of the auto dimming not being as good as it was too.

I hope Sony allow us to downgrade or fix this very soon as this is not acceptable by a long way.

The only place HDR menus/UI work correctly is in Netfix app, youtube you play a HDR video and click down to see rest of videos they are so dim you cant see them same with the time line or going into that channels menu on youtube the whole channel stays dim. The colours are unnatural now, I had it always on Standard and the colours were really nice and natural now the Tv looks like a Samsung on Vivid with over saturated colours and vivid setting is just a joke now, it's like vivid setting is now standard and vivid is basically unwatchable its that blown out and over exposed.

Has anyone ever contacted Sony in the UK regarding their TVS ?

Dim menus. Yes, I noticed that too (along with the dim teletext).

Seems that most software developers are also dim these days. It's not like Sony are having to deal with a wide range of hardware. At what point did they not test this update on their hardware ?

I manually flashed the original Oreo and that was fine for me, except for DTS passthrough.

After the latest Oreo my first impressions were.... Why is the main menu so dim.? How could that have passed QC, kinda obvious.!?

Well at least DTS passthrough now works in Kodi.

The main menu is not the worst of it go play some HDR content on youtube and scroll down to the time bar and videos listed under and then in the same youtube video go to the channel that hosts the video. Everything is dim and at that time also click the action menu and picture or sound mode, the menu almost vanishes in the day time. Only place that works right at the moment is netflix HDR and people also complained the subtitles on netfix are also too dim with HDR and without.

All above applies to HDMI with HDR content too, it's like a blind person was left to do QC on this build, also my above post shows even the colours are wrong with the example of red, that was first thing I also noticed was the colours were off on the apps and the video playback on the apps.

It is shocking how many issues are with this build also DTS is fixed but people are saying if you have a dts-hd master audio the TV still won't work right as it won't extract the DTS core only and again no audio. I have not tried this as I don't use the TV as a media player I use my 4k player to do all that.

So I had day to myself pretty much yesterday and I wasted it testing a variety of configurations. I settled on just plugging the Sky Q and Apple TV into the TV and using optical. That worked fine.

However it annoys me that I’ve now lost the ability to have anything above Dolby Digital playing.

So I decided to plug the HDMI out from the sound bar into HDMI 2, which is the non ARC one and plug the Apple TV into the sound bar, leave Sky using the optical.

This appears to have kept the Sky box from breaking and now allows me to have the best sound available through the sound bar.

It seems like the Sky Q box is having issues with the audio over HDMI to the sound bar. Really not sure what is at fault but I’m happy enough now.

Fingers crossed no more issues

I have the XF9000 soundbar to accompany this TV and it appears to work but using the remote (whilst it does clearly change the setting) does not cause any notification/writing to appear on screen - e.g. switches from "cinematic" to "standard", or switching on "Vertical S", adjusting volume or similar. Should it?

It only does for the devices plugged directly into the sound bar. So it doesn’t for my Sky Q, but as the Apple TV is into the sound bar, I can see all the things you have mentioned..

Came across my first real issue which stops me enjoying the tv. I remember this happening before when testing it but since it was used for console only it was never needed. Anyway the wifi keeps disconnecting. I'll be watching prime in 4k and boom insufficient bandwidth or wifi disconnected message pops up.

I have a Unifi NanoHD approximately 4-5m away. So it's not a wifi issue. The signal is likely stronger than what anybody else has. I've googled and a lot of other people having issues with various remedies.

Option 1 - Full factory reset, not something I want to do as I don't think this will help
Option 2 - Disable IPV6, I can't do this using the unifi phone app, I'll try the PC app if nothing else works.
Option 3 - Disable automatic time and date. I'm going to try this first. It could be I'm connecting to the wrong server and the time / date is being messed up.
Option 4 - Update to latest firmware. Then make sure each individual service and app is updated to the latest. There is apparently a in built module called android tv service or something which needs to be on the latest update. Thing is this happened on the old firmware too so I can't see this helping but it's easy to try so I will.

I could run a powerline but it would mean I need to remove the powerline I have on my nintendo switch to do so.

have you done some wifi speed tests ? from my earlier post
..
I first tried to play the sample off of a fast USB 3.0 HDD in order to verify that the MT5890 is capable of decoding HEVC Main 10 High@Level 5.1 at such a high bitrate. I also stress-tested my network infrastructure (server ⇒ Gibt Ethernet Switch ⇒ Wi-Fi access point ⇒ Wi-Fi client station) to rule out any potential bottleneck. All tests went well with the network achieving a stable 300-400mbps (TCP traffic) over 802.11ac at the same distance as the Sony TV in direct line of sight of the access point.

..... While WiFi Speed Test, downloading data via TCP from the server to the Sony TV, attested a 100mbps on average with previous firmware versions, Nougat at least raised the bar to a stable 200mbps.

Firmware update to v6.6510 for Asia market (Says it all really how bad of an update this was):-

So is the Oreo update on hold again? I thought the rollout had restarted  Mine hasn’t updated yet but for some reason Netflix and only Netflix has gone all “soap opera” effect on me and no matter which option I choose I can’t get it back to normal. What is also weird is that watching Prime the image is super grainy (noisy) particularly footage of the sky  Anyone else have this issue or know how to rectify it?

I was using recommended settings from one of the links early on in this thread since 12 mths ago but maybe it’s reset itself somehow...
