Sony XF90

Thanks for the heads up, will install it soon , once it downloads and give you guys some feedback and hope it fixes the silly issues that appeared with last update.

All working as it should be now, so let's hope they don't mess things up on another update. All the menus are back to normal and in HDR too. So I guess the threats of people returning their TVS worked to get a quick fix to the last update that caused these silly issues that shouldn't have passed QC.

has anyone got the option too watch Wimbledon in 4k ? currently updating too v6.6520 via usb, I'll be dead by the time Sony release any updates by OTA it seems.

So, at last got around to manually installing the "fixed" Oreo firmware on this TV - been running the original firmware since owning the TV because of all the little issues.
All seemed to be fine for the first few days, now I'm randomly getting "Ethernet cable is disconnected" messages appearing on screen.
These were initially appearing whilst using the SkyQ box or the PS4 Pro - so not an issue, however it appeared last night whilst we were using Netflix and of course that all halted and the only option was to reboot the TV.

Thinking of it as a one-off we continued - same thing happens an hour or so later.

Doing some digging around, the only fix being offered by Sony (via forums - doesn't appear to be official) is to turn off IPv6 at a router level - there have been a couple of people reporting this as a fix, I'll be trying this later (I do hope this can be disabled via the Sky routers).

I do rate the Sony TV's as a TV - their LED's even now rival OLED at every point, but boy - do they firstly give up on older TV's quickly...stopping software updates and how they can continuously pass QC with some of these software builds I just don't know.
Obscure problems I understand. Everything cannot be tested before a build goes live. But surely, having the TV on an IPv6 network would have been something tested before it was released?

I don't know where you get your info from on software updates but I had quite a few on my W809C and for several years too like 4 years later still getting updates.

Also the XF90 has had 3 updates and I've owned it maybe 7 months.

Indeed the XF90 has had 3 updates - the first Oreo update broke connectivity to Soundbars & receivers. The second one broke Dolby Vision and made menus impossible to read. And now the latest one, the one to fix all the issues, has broken network connectivity.
You can release as many updates as you like - but if they are broken I think most customers would rather you didn't.

Network connectivity is fine on my XF90 with IPv6 enabled. It’s connected to a cheap tplink switch and I’ve not had any issues since I installed the update a month ago.

The only issue that I have had, and I did manually apply the first Oreo update, was the difficulty in reading some menus after the first official release. They soon seemed to resolve that tho.

We have a cheap 24" LG smart TV in our kitchen and it has been there for about two years, bought as a refurb from Tesco. I'm amazed at how many updates to the software that LG release for that TV....! Having just got another one a few days ago.

As I mentioned above, 3 Oreo updates and each one has broken something.
If those breaks didn't cause you any issues then excellent (I can only assume you don't use Dolby Vision as the second update completely broke that).
Nobody wants to update the firmware on their TV and then find they cannot use their receiver any more because the two will not communicate. Nobody wants to update their TV firmware, go to watch something in Dolby Vision and find the screen so dark you cannot see anything.

I've just had a response from Sony - network issue will be resolved in the next(TM) software release. Not a major issue, I have zero use for IPv6 internally - but still just shouldn't happen, considering the first two (broken for other reasons) Oreo update didn't have that fault.

Not sure why dolby vision is so dark for some, but checking Jack Ryan on Amazon and it seems to be ok on mine.
I've not any problems with the network connection either, but I already disabled ipv6 due to windows 10 network issues.

Guys, if you have this TV buy extended warranty for it. If the screen will get cracked/smashed, Sony will charge you for a new TV.

They have stopped providing LCD screens and backlit panels for at least two year towards their repair centers and they are forcing their customers in buying another TV instead of repairing the one that has an issue.

I have made the mistake of not buying the extended warranty, screen got smashed and now I have parts worth 600 pounds, and I can`t buy an LCD screen to fix it.

Don’t think Amazon use Dolby Vision so you would need to check Netflix or another source.

lolwut?

that has been the case with any tv. if you smash it. they don't make parts past 1 year.

First time I run a game in HDR and the XF90 just gets ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED, and that's in Tetris Effect. Oh so pretty and fun, but man is this game a perfect OLED advertisement. Really making me think about adding an oled as a 2nd TV to use for just such occasions. Hmmmmmm.
