Sony Xperia 1 II - A return to form for Sony?

I've got high hopes for this, it seems to be getting a lot of positive attention. I've always liked that Sony don't jump on the band wagon of notches, curved screens etc.

I had an XZP before moving to my current XZ3 and the only things I've really missed are the 3.5mm jack and side mounted FP/power button combo.

Got my pre-order in last week with o2 and can't wait :D

Fair point. What benefit do you get from having a flagship phone though? What do you do with it that warrants the specs it has? (Genuine question) :)

I use my phone fairly heavily, for music, social media, sending emails, taking pictures, watching 1080P youtube videos, browsing the web, video calls, occasionally playing games, and it is a 2017 Nokia 8.

It does everything I ask of it, and it even still gets software updates. I bought it second hand off a friend after he upgraded.

Simply put if you're not enthusiastic about a category you'll not appreciate the details. Your Nokia lacks OLED high refresh rate screen (great IQ and touch response/fluidity) , ultra wide cam (for those artistic or hard to fit in shots), modern full body screen (design aesthetics, max screen to body ratio) to name a few.

It's like comparing a Mondeo to an M5. Both function as family wagon, one does it to a higher standard.

Now let me choose a vacuum cleaner for example and I'd have no qualms of choosing a Henry over a Dyson :p

Maybe its more like comparing a 5 year old M5 with a new M5 ;)

Fair enough, I haven't tried an OLED high refresh rate screen so don't know what I'm missing in that regard. Camera is decent enough, if I want to be artistic I reach for the DSLR.

Full body screen I fully do not want. It would get broken the first time I drop it. Whereas my Nokia 8, seems to be built Nokia tough. :p

Cars are more likely to age gracefully. Tech/phones don't. Your Nokia is Mondeo grade now. :p

Good luck carrying your DSLR and it's gubbins for every moment.

You're unintentionally aiding my previous point there. :D

But yeah I kinda get it now. It would be nice to have a really good camera built into my phone etc.

I'll spend my money on what I want, without justifying it to people on the internet. Lol
I like gadgets and cameras. This phone should be spot on.

To be fair to Chinese phones, you'd probably spend £400-£500 for something along these specs :)

Flagship premium Chinese phones are no longer as cheap as they used to be, my mate 20 pro was a similar price and that was nearly 2 yrs ago..
I had a whole bunch of emails from them about 5 mins after ordering. Im just hoping that it lives up to the hype unlike the S20 Ultra which I was so disappointed in.
I won't object if O2 want to send it out early though...

Two points on this. 1) They're better than they used to be. You get a better camera for one and other bits are generally better too, like the screen. You can still get similar spec'd Chinese devices at similar prices, they've just moved into actual flagship territory with better actual devices. 2) The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was £899 on release... I know, I bought one on release.

I already have a contract with them, so its an upgrade for me.

Just checked on my O2 page, order confirmed, been proceed, waiting on launch day.

I don't have any specific emails that say the same thing!

Not even receiving account confirmation emails from them when I try and sign in to check the status.

Don't know if its a them issue or me issue, as email account is my domain and using it through g-mail.

I had the same happen to me, o2's silly system doesn't email you when you've been referred for a credit check.

If you haven't heard anything a couple of days after your order then ring customer service. Best number to get through seems to be 0800 587 4005

When I ordered from O2 last year I had zero updates of any kind, only to call the store where I was supposed to collect it from and they told me my order was there when they went to check it.
