Sony Xperia 1 II - A return to form for Sony?

Loved my Sony handsets, but they always were so slow with updates... Never again. The likes of OnePlus have shown what customer service is all about.

My last two phones were Sony flagships and i agree they were just wayy to slow with OS updates. They got ahead of the game with my current phone (XZ1) by already having Oreo straight from the factory at a point when Google was only just making it publically available. But i'm very disheartened that it only got one major update, to the point that it's actually put me off buying a Sony ever again. It's all well and good making good hardware, but if you don't have the engineering team behind it to roll software updates in a timely manner, then you're just leaving your users behind whilst the competition keeps moving forward.

1k?

That's a no. Don't even need to read anymore.
5x the cost of my s7 Edge

1k for a phone is a price point I'll never go to.
That's over a month of mortgage payment.

Dissapointed you can't just get a phone with a great camera but none of the 5g, super high res screens etc etc

I'm in the same boat, i'll just about justify myself spending 600 on one if i can see myself getting 3 years out of it, but more than that... no thanks.

Frankly the hardware doesn't look like that much of an upgrade over a 3 year phone to warrant a 4 figure price tag.

Also, are people really craving 5G? I'm very rarely on the move these days that i require a high-speed connection for streaming, anything like that i do at home where i can use the WiFi.

Unless you are tethering, what on earth would you need 5g for?
I may be naive, but cant think of anything

Only costing £799 for the phone. And a £329 pair of headphones chucked in. If I sold them for a few hundred, that's a £599 phone.
All this slamming and questioning of buying a 4 figure phone.....we'll all of us in O2, are not.

Regarding the XM3, why would O2 change it when it's Sony that supply the headphones? They have 1750 according to the T&C's.

I'm guessing Sony have only allocated that limited number which preorders have now exceeded. Via their own online shop/partner, Sony have replaced the XM3 offer with just a case!! This ain't O2s doing, it seems to be a Sony decision.

As with all freebies Sony chuck in, you won't get RRP for it. So you're realistically looking at 750-800.

Don't you have to claim though to Sony as with these promotions normally, so some people might do it earlier or later for whatever reason so changing it already seems odd no?

Not really odd no, I'm guessing Sony have told o2 they'll honour 1750 sets of the headphones. Preorders have now exceeded the 1750 Sony stumped up for the promotion so o2 have had to negotiate an alternative. o2 have said the claims will be processed based on order date so it seems there doesn't have to be such a mad rush on delivery day!

Maybe Sony have been surprised by how much interest the o2 price/deal has drummed up - probably thought 1750 headphones was enough for the whole preorder period based on recent success :p

I had the same happen to me, o2's silly system doesn't email you when you've been referred for a credit check.

If you haven't heard anything a couple of days after your order then ring customer service. Best number to get through seems to be 0800 587 4005

Phoned today and supposedly its showing as confirmed and waiting for release date......

What cases are poeple going to buy?

I can't fault the design of the Spigen on my s8+. Yes the paint is worn off the corners but work requires a rugged cover and this one has survived a few drops and slips out of the hand.

Spigen looks good, not decided yet though.
I don't like folding ones, but do provide more protection, hmmm.....
Innove-UK has a lot of good looking cases, but reading up on the company, it'll never turn up!

Tell me any freebie that is purchased with a phone that you can get RRP for when selling on? Exactly, There are none!
However the headphones that are bundled with this phone will fetch a lot more than the £50 your quoting. I would guess at maybe £150 at a push.

The RRP for the phone is £1099 whether that is worth it or not is irrelevant as we are only paying £799. If we sell the headphones on for £150 that's £649 for the phone. I don't see many phones as good as this one for only £649? Whether that's a chinese phone, a Japanese phone, I just don't see them around right now. If there are, please point them out.

Yea - helps that they are some of the mist highly regarded wireless headphones in recent times too. I never put a value on offers like this as invariably the market gets flooded with people selling them which ends up driving the price down. For me, this is a £799 phone on o2 which happens to be fantastic value if I want a great set of headphones chucked in that I will use :)

Even at that price I think it looks really good in comparison to its peers - especially if the camera/pro camera app combination reap the desired results.

I ordered on the 4th June and still nothing here :o

I'm not overly bothered if the phone comes on release or gets delayed. I just want to make sure I get the XM3s and not the replacement offer of WH-H910N

You'll be fine - they've posted in their community forum the terms and its based on order date now not first come first served with the claims. Orders before the 8th I think it was get the XM3.
