Southport stabbings

Money can go a long way to help families after something like this. I don't know how long it would take me to get back to work, so I'd be relying on savings or the hope that my employer would continue to pay me.

Anything that takes away the extra stress is a help.

If my son or daughter died before me in a situation like that I don't think any amount of money would help that. It would scar me for life. God knows what I would do to the parents because they failed that child.

I would really rather like these restrictions to stop frankly.

It clearly doesn't work.

It does help crack down on the ‘big silly knife is cool’ thing that some young children are sucked into.

Where those zombie knives have been used, the attackers have been seen posing and ‘looking cool’ with these sorts of weapons, prior to the attacks.

Could they do the same with kitchen knives? Yes, but anything that helps de-glamourise knife crime is a good thing IMO, especially if there is no obvious practical everyday use for ‘big silly knives’.

His life is over. He won't have any human contact in the rest of his life, because he'll be in solitary confinement.
Highly doubt that, he's still classed as a minor, will be judged and sentenced different than an adult.

It's not America where that's exactly what would happen, but in the UK he will go to a jail in gen pop, and be radicalised by some nut job, get out in 25 years and do it again.

The US still has the death penalty in places does it not? The crime there is significantly higher.
I don't think "having the death penalty" and "high crime" are closely related. If the state put real effort into helping problem communities, it would have a positive impact on reducing crime.

Obviously terrible for the parents but must be some hard on the emergency services too, I don't know what kind of training can prepare you for scenes like that, probably none.

Where I work some of the paramedics are volunteers, I mean I couldn't do it so have big respect for people who do that scene must have been hell.

But certainly to do it with no pay and the things you see must be horrendous.

Or the people in the houses nearby, probably look forward to PTSD everytime they hear a siren
Quite a few stories of people going in to help and try and apprehend/stop the person with the knife attacking - really harrowing.

I think like many here with kids, they will have been sending their kids off to holiday clubs over the holiday period. This very easily could have been a news story about your own. My daughter is of the age range of these kids and on Thursday and Friday was at a dance themed club. Really hits home.

What do you mean @Tinders

I'm just clarifying, as I am half thinking that you mean crime is significantly higher in the individual States that do have the death penalty.

I think you mean crime in the US is significantly higher in general though. It might be an interesting statistic to investigate whether Capital Crime is higher in those states.

It's of very little consolation but the chance of this happening to anyone else is fractions of a percent.

Human beings have the capacity to do so much good and then you get people like this

Probably wouldn’t stop someone disturbed like this and personally I’d rather see them suffer for the rest of their life. Death is too easy.

good chance he will end up in Broadmoor hospital. He must be on another planet to do what he did. Absolutely clean off as they say

The level of speculation about this is hitting crazy highs, understandable really considering the level of horror -
is it? people gossip its been a thing since humans first walked the Earth.

Now it's onlin einstead of at the school gates, the pub, a neighbours garden or wherever.

IF they want people to not speculate they should release details as soon as they are known .

lets stop pretending this is a new thing because of the internet... people did it since the dawn of time...

Even the news these days seems to include a lot of speculations.

oh look its putin again, yes its putin again and again and again.... etc with literally 0 evidence... atleast we are just random people discussing between our selves and not trying to present it as some informed opinion.

I bet most of the knowledge on earth came around this way... you sort the chaff and get the wheat.. its a process and takes time.

It's not like we have pitchforks and are marching anywhere, its basically harmless speculation, its how people process and deal with emotions? and come to terms with what has happened.

yes it's shocking, its unbelievable and it takes time for for things to calm down a bit into a more reasonable and logical discussion., which now we seem to be aproaching.

no harm has been done? I don't see the problem apart from the MODs extra work load.
