Spanish Grand Prix 2010, Circuit de Catalunya - Race 5/19

First corners going to be interesting, Vettel will be really gunning for Webber with Hamilton looking to get right in there and hope to overtake on a straight with a bit of a tow/f-duct action - if the red bulls get into clean air though its essentially an inter red bull race, with Hamilton holding third.

Alonso will try a move on Hamilton, but more realistically will be fending off Button.

Button may be able to jump Alonso either on the first corner or at the pit stops, but with the Ferarri enjoying the same straight line speed it would otherwise take a big mistake from Alonso (quite possible when driving with no hands ;)). Buttons just as likely to lose position to Schumacher though, so he should have quite a busy race either way.

Probably going to be a bit of a dull race with most of the action in the midfield.

If the race ends in the same positions as qualifying we'd see:

Button 70
Hamilton 64
Vettel 63
Alonso 61
Rosberg 54
Webber 53
Kubica 46
Massa 42
Schumacher 18

So if Hamilton, Vettel or Alonso can progress they could be leading the title race after tomorrow.

Its going to be a very interesting start tomorrow. The commentators mentioned that the Ferrari was about 5kph faster down the back straight than anything else. I didn't see any speed trap data today but if that is still the case them Hamilton is going to be on top of RBR and Alonso could well be there as well. Hopefully a very tight first corner.

For an interesting race I think we need to hope for the rain gods again though, if its dry and there are no big shunts RBR look sure to win by a country mile as long as they dont have a failure or pit problems again.

Sorry, but RBR must be bending/breaking the rules somehow, because their car does not look different at all and they still have this totally imba qualifying advantage - I call foul!

They have done SOMETHING with the rideheight, i am convinced of it, did you see the defuser get destroyed after smashing the ground due to being so low in practice?

If his tire wear was as bad as the last race I would say no.

In the last race RB was the worst then Lewis. Buttons and ferrari was ok.
Vettel can easy lose 3 secs a lap with bad tire wear so no point of a one lap fast car if the tires wear out fast.

Roll on 1PM :)

I hate to say this but, you actually spout more **** than Sunama at times.

As far as I'm aware, there are no rules regarding the driving of the car with both hands off the wheel.

I'm pretty sure if they wanted they could penalise them for dangerous driving and even black flag him. Driving in F1 without at least one hand on the wheel is dangerous.

I'd give him one warning and then black flag him.

Amazing really. How does a company like renault make faster engines than a company like ferrari who specialise in supercars and fast engines. Is it just because they have more money for better engine development?

I think that all the front running teams would take that result, if they could, with the exception of Alonso who would probably fancy his chances against Button and maybe Hamilton.

Do Renault have a more powerful engine than Ferrari?

In saying that, back in the early 90s, Renault did have the most powerful engine in F1, by a good margin. And Williams used it to crushing effect in 1992 and 1993.

At the end of the day, its all about which company can extract the maximum performance, while maintaining reliability and while staying within the rules. Its not a case of simply taking an engine out of a road car and sticking it in an F1 car. By this token, Rolls Royce who make engines for aircraft with 1000s of BHP, will not necessarily make the most powerful engine in F1, if they decided to build one.

I thought all the pundits and commentators on the BBC were saying that the redbull cars were the fastest on the straights?

I believe Ferrari now have the fastest car on the straight, by around 5kph...thanks to their new F-duct.

BTW. what does 'F' stand for?

That's because they went over a raised kerb.

Nobody else did this, and all of them have been flirting with the kerbs this weekend...

In the case of RBR, it's not the engine but the chasis/bodywork around it. In F1 aerodynamic downforce is king!

Supposedly the location of the inlet duct on the McLaren car lines up with the "F" on the Vodafone sponsorship logo :D

Nope, renault engines are behind the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari with regards to top speed afaik. But the renault engine is the most fuel efficient from what I remember.

Doesn't stand for anything iirc, think it had to do with it's snorkel shape and it being located next to the F in vodafone. McLaren revealed their proper name for the device, but it was something typically boring and hard to remember.

Wing stalling device is more accurate really, as that is its function.

We use magic fairy dust all teams are allowed to use it,they just need to find it in Neverland first. :D

The only time you might think his hand is off the wheel is when he is adjusting brake balance while covering the duct.

But the brake balance dial is on the wheel therefore his hand is still on the wheel.
