Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Watched the first episode yesterday, my first thoughts were that I think they overdo the slo-mo and the blood in the fight scenes, and the interaction between characters reminds me of a games voice acting. It was pretty good though for entertainment so I'll probably watch more.

Watchable, got pretty interesting. Some acting is horrendous as well as some of the cheesy lines. Based on a decent story/context.

Also, in ep1, in the ring fighting them 4 guys, one of them hits him with the wooden handle the axe blade is on and loads of blood spurts out of his back. Two things wrong with this, 1 its blunt wood, 2 the camera panned out after and there wasn't a scratch?

I watched about 5 episodes and gave up, it started off ok but went downhill fast, bad acting and i couldn't really see where the whole thing was going. It really grated me that at the beginning he was some kind of badass warrior for his village and was slaughtering his enemies all around him, which he also did with the 4 gladiators sent to kill him. Then as soon as he starts gladiator training he turns into some kind of gimp barely able to hold a sword.

That's based on fact though.
Spartacus pretended to bend down until he could take his chance to break out.
He was known as the Gladiator who fought back.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all 13 episodes and watched them back to back and I'm not bothered about cheesy acting or poor CGI effects - I used to watch Prisoner Cell Block H.

wow rome was really a porn city of its time. isnt it just random how his slaves give him head and his wife is watching and chatting to him like its caj.

If Historians are to be believed then it was rampant.
Homosexuality wasn't frowned upon and people did it with whoever they wanted with no judgement.
The 15 year old boy in the series would have been offered to his Dad's best friends and if they refused it would be a dishonour.
It's only when little baby Jesus came that some of the world started to get morals.

I have to admit, loved the first 13 episodes although the blood was a little overused it dumbed down quite a fair bit coming to the end of the first series. I am now eagerly awaiting Series 2.

I might not have been watching films closely but it's the first time I've seen CGI used for showing peoples throats being split open and their insides pouring out.
Did they use CGI on that Gladiators **** to enhance it and they obviously used it when they cut it off?

He was slaughtering other barbarians who likely weren't exactly uber-soldiers. The four gladiators at the start apparantly weren't particularly good either.

Then you have Crixus who has been training all day every day for years to do one thing - fight. Even most Roman soldiers probably didn't train that hard.

It might seem a bit convenient, and I am sure it is, but it is not completely beyond the realms of possibility.

Exactly it's a bit like him being an amateur sprinter running for a local club, far faster than the general public and most other club runners but when he gets to the olympic athletes he's left for dust. Makes sense to me.

Also so this thread doesn't go the same way as the others, try and keep the spoilers out of it for people who are watching it at the UK rate. :p

Watched last weeks episode and I don't get why people are criticizing the acting. Yeah, it's shocking at times but the main focus is on the action and the *ahem* other stuff. :p

It's a pretty good mindless watch for when you've had a hard day and you just want to flake out on the sofa with some beers and enjoy some OTT brainless trash tv. :D

I never felt the acting to be bad, Doctor Who has terrible acting, Spartacus certainly does not.

The main judge of how good a show is, is whether it can immerse me in that world for the duration of the episode/series so that I no longer see the characters as actors/actresses but as the actual characters themselves.

Spartacus does this and therefore I enjoyed it a lot (twice already) and can't wait for the new prequel series.
