Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Not seen this yet but notice that it is available in HD if you have Virgin On Demand. Only the first episode is on there I think, will check it out tonight.

The sex scenes are bit unnecessary, I mean they show them kissing and they huddle together and they are obviously naked so we all get the overall picture that they are having sex but then why do I have to be shown the actual humping motions and them doing it in all sorts of positions.

It felt out of place from the rest of the story, just randomly having these porno scenes. I mean did they really have massive orgies and have slaves "start them off"?

Also they speak all posh and in classic english but then incorporate "****" (another word for faeces) and **** (another word for urine) almost every other sentence. But there is hardly any use of **** (another word for intercourse). Sounds weird.

You're prudish, that's ok. Sex doesn't suit everyone.

Meh seen the first two episodes of this and yes at times, the acting is horrific (male lead does a decent job) and the dialogue is just plain stupid and ridiculous. It's mindless fun and shouldn't be taken too seriously I guess.

I'm not a huge fan but I'll probably watch the first season.

At first I wasn't too sure, but I've just watched the last episode and actually really enjoyed it. As others have said, after a while you don't notice the bad acting and stuff. Looking forward to season 2 for sure.

Think I may go watch episode 3 in a minute, if I can find my headphones...

EDIT: Nope, going to have to watch it tomorrow... :(

Watched all this over the last week. At first I thought it was just a smidge to cheesy and poorly acted. But it does grow on you, by halfway through it actually has a pretty decent story going on particularly out of the training/arena stuff. The British chap plays Batiatus very well. I look forward to the second season, just a shame its going to be a mini-series prequel affair.

I encourage people who don't already know the Spartacus story not to look it up! It made me realize actually how close the show follows the real story and could well be riddled with spoilers haha!

the dude with a scottish accent needs to dissapear. he's pretty bad and the accent doesnt seem to suite the set very well.

+1

Guessing you're talking about John Hannah, I always remember him as the pathetic guy from The Mummy and agree that it's bad casting.

Erin Cummins is unbelievably hot though

I think he suits the part of snivelling rat bag very well. Accents are always going to be dodgy in this kind of show. Scottish accents are no more or less convincing than perfect English ones.

Anyone saying it's a bad casting - who would you have cast instead?

I just don't find his persona fitting, sure he's a great actor but I just don't think he suits the role. I think it requires a more intimidating presence, perhaps Mark Strong?

He wouldn't suit the character either, he has "too much" presence. I think Hannah is regarded as one of the best casts by most people. Again, trying not to give anything away the further in the series you get the better you realise he is casted IMO. He's not meant to have presence as such, as Robbie said, he's meant to be a bit of a slime ball/snivelling rat bag.

Ah fair enough, I've only seen the first 3 episodes so your opinion is much more substantiated than mine :)
