Spec me a CCTV System

Can anyone advise , I am thinking of getting 2 x DS-2CD2085FWD-I 8MP to replace my aging DS-2CD2032-I 3mp units . I have seen on AliExpress these DS-2CD2085FWD-I 8MP are under £100 and the unit says "original english version firmware updateable" , From experience can anyone advise please if these are safe to buy ?

Am I correct in saying that this requires two cables? Cat5e won't work?

Depends entirely on the extender you use.

I’d say no. But who knows that’s the risk you take.

Anyone know how to get the Hikvision ivms-4500 app displayed on a LG smart TV or is it not possible ?

I installed iVMS on my Formuler Z7+ Android box last night and all my cams were working great.

That’s another option for you.

I was just looking at setting up the email alerts / push notifications and got a bit stuck.

Went to do it on the cameras directly then realised they're on their own subnet so won't be able to get out to the SMTP server. So on the NVR I entered in SMTP settings (not Gmail!) that I know are 100% correct as I have them working elsewhere - but all I get from the Hikvision test is 'testing failed'.

Any ideas or anyone had this before? Maybe @Scream or @Hyburnate have seen this??

See mentions of it online but that's mainly people with 2 factor setup for Gmail and you need to then create the 'app password' for less secure apps or whatever - but that's irrelevant as I'm not using gmail SMTP

Also tried HikConnect by setting the 'platform access' in the NVR web UI and creating a hik-connect account on the website but got to the point of adding the serial number into my account and it couldn't find the NVR serial - and in platform access it is showing 'offline'.

All I really want is the email / push alerts (ideally a choice of which would be ideal if I can get both working)

Any help much appreciated! :) Thanks

UPDATE: Was just trying to sort the push notifications at least... Tested the line cross detection and I can see the line go red on the PC client but it doesn't mention anything about being an event and it doesn't push anything to the phone at all (same network, internally so no port forwarding required).

The phone app toggle for alarms on that NVR is turned on and it is set to 'notify surveillance center' in the smart event settings but nothing...

Hmmm

Can anyone recommend a camera that can either record constantly for a week or on movement (of which there would be at most an hour per week ish) and is totally offline?

Any hikvision with a microSD slot?

Would need to get 'on it' to configure it, but after that you shouldn't need to

I’d really appreciate your advice on upgrading my existing CCTV system.

Existing system was fitted in 2009 and consists 4 channel DVR & 4 TC985 Sony HQ1 type dome cameras (520TVL - 752X582 I think).

The system uses BNC all in one cables (2x10m, 1x20m, 1x25m). I would have to use these EXISTING cables, as running an alternative such as cat 5 would be a NIGHTMARE!

Lighting is generally poor, so low light performance at night would be a priority.

I would like to keep power consumption and noise at reasonable levels, what would be the best option for this? My hub would be next to my router, so can Ethernet connect. Would like to access/view the system from my mobile (iPhone X).

Max budget around £600.

If sticking with your coaxial Setup, you need to look at the Hikvision Turbo Range. Cheaper than IP Cams which is a bonus for you. Can’t spec you a system as I ditched coax cams a number of years ago.

http://www.hikvision.com/europe/products_174.html

Their Turbo kit is widely available to purchase and they sell cams that are stated as low level light cams but I haven’t checked the spec sheets to confirm it as Hikvision & Dahua are now stated some of their cams are low level light but it’s just a marketing ploy and nothing low light about them.

I don’t use gmail. Had more issues than it was worth. When setting up NVR’s, I use a private email which works perfectly and no headaches.

Adding cams or NVR’s to Hik-connect always seems to raise issues with invalid serial or can’t find it. Log into the NVR and make sure you have set your DNS server to your Routers IP 192.168.1.254 etc for BT or Google’s 8.8.8.8 for secondary. It’s Network settings anyhow.

Also, have you set a verification code for your NVR?

Yeah I know Gmail had issues so went straight for 123-reg which I have working elsewhere - but not with Hik... will try again!

Fairly sure DNS was set to one of the two you said, and yeah I set the verification code and THEN realised I need to make a HikConnect account.

I'll try it all again tomorrow maybe and see how it goes. Hopefully get it working

Cheers!

Can anyone recommend a 1- 2 IP camera that works well in the dark down a drive way ? Looking to put in cctv due to some idiot breaking into my car. Thinking of one pointing at the parking spots and another one to get my door and driveway entrance ? Small issue is I only have the first floor wall to be be able to mount the cctv due to it being a flat.

some photos.

Thanks.

Gents after 2 years of trying, we are finally expecting a little one on the way :).

So Baby monitors..... whats best? a good IP cam, or dedicated device?

:)

A few people have used the Hikvision DS-2CD2442FWD-IW. Two way audio and Wi-fi. All depends if you need to move it around? If not, you maybe after a fixed cam and possibly a vari-focal so when it’s fitted to the ceiling, you can set the lens to which you find is perfect.

My partner went to her car yesterday on our driveway as the alarm went off and she saw a man running away. She was alone with our new baby and as such I now want to get a security camera.

Is there such a thing as a camera that will work wirelessly (wired power is Ok) and also send me notifications when it detects anyone on my property?

I saw some cheap cameras on Amazon but reviews stared they were not very secure

Hik do Wireless Cameras but not got any experience with them in the real world - Last time I checked there was 10 Week leadtimes for me too.
