Spec me an LED Torch

Headlamp of some sort, so both your hands are kept free.

I may invest in a headlamp as a secondary light source. In terms of a torch though, I would like to have one. So any offers on the best one for the money?

Ill try and rephrase what I am looking for as it seems no one is interested putting a few suggestions forward.

A small (tactile I guess is the buzz word here) portable LED torch which is bright, has decent battery life and can be carried in the car for emergency uses. Budget is around £70.

If you're after small and a torch that uses common cells (i.e. AA batteries) then I'd reconmend a 4Sevens Quark Pro QPA.

It's multi mode so you can have it bright or very low (10days run time on lowest setting)

If you want brighter and longer run times and don't mind a longer light go for the 2xAA version @ £59.95.

The single AA light @ 108 ANSI lumens if still bright though - easily 10x a maglight.

Chuck an Energizer Lithium AA cell in it and leave it in your glove box indeffinately. Please don't use alkaline cells in it.

Can anyone recommend a bike light? Looking for something similar to the cree xml light that was doing the rounds about 6 months ago. It is to use on my road bike only. Budget is £30 - £50

sorry to resurrect but can anyone recommend a head-torch, its for an off road night run so needs to be reasonably powerful and last for about 2hrs (depending on how fit I am by the time I get to doing it...)

That's PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) in play - cheaper flashlights use it to modify brightness rather than the better and more efficient current limiting that better flashlights use. I think I've only got one PWM like left in my collection (Romisen RC-N3).

Good choice! I also have a Skyray King winging it's way to me! It's a mammoth.

On the battery front I went for some Panasonic NCR18650 2900mAh cells. £5 each on the bay.

I've gone a bit silly again.

As well as a Skyray King I also have a Jetbeam PA40 and a the new light from Fenix, a Fenix LD41 heading towards me! Both the Jetbeam and the Fenix are 4xAA lights, a format that I find to strike a nice balance of running time and brightness, with a good physical size. My first Fenix!!

I thought that I was set for lights, with my LX2 Lumamax, Sunwayman V10R Ti and many many others, but when I found my Maratac AAA Cu again, I remembered that I need a "tiny-little-wee" light - So I bought a Maratac AA Aluminium.

Sometimes I don't want a light that's bigger than a finger, so a light that's barely bigger than a AA should be perfect! My old iTP Eos A2 was perfect until I dunked the head in a glass of whisky...
