Speedlink Medusa 5.1 Headset Owners' Thread

nope is distorted, try what u said tho

***EDIT***

right well i switched front and rear over, as there is no jack for center

well something was making the sound, think it was still front speakers

gonna give oc a ring tomoz see if they think its faulty, i reckon it is

oh and should the bass be equal in both sides, as ive found more bass on the right than left, thought it might of been something to do with left ear pad falling off ? maybe wild guess

Earpads are supposed to come off. As long as you've put it back on then that's nothing to do with any bass problems. Bass should be balanced.

No jack for centre? It's called SUB/CEN, it's the first input next to the power input on the back of the amp.

Try unplugging all three inputs and then connect the rear from your soundcard into just one of the inputs on the amp. Then unplug and try it in the next input on the amp, and then the third one. If one of them sounds distorted then I reckon they are probably faulty, but check you can't get rid of the distortion by altering soundcard/windows volumes and the inline headphone volumes. If none of them are distorted then your soundcard is amping the front left/right channel and you'll need to look into how to turn that off.

All companies produce a percentage of faulty products btw.

yeh i know they do just a shame lol

erm ah center is sub, lol, so u suggest trying each jack in each port on amp, il try that

ive tried fidderling loads in windows believe me, spent several hours, il have a quick fiddle when iget up, if cant fix it with changing jacks il ring oc

ok well ive just tried having 1 end of 1 jack connected to the rear speaker jack on the onboard sound, the other i had connected first to front speakers on amp, got distortion, then rear, no distortion then center/sub again no distiortion

so am i right in thinking the amp is up the shoo, specifically the front speaker port

well just got mine and rather annoyed

firstly the front speakers, not center or back just front have really really bad distortion on, its really bad, also the left ear pad came off after putting them on once and taking them off and its im possible to get back on

if i cant get both of them sorted by tomorrow sending them back, so for now i rate them

3 / 10

worse than my £15 plantronics tbh

***EDIT***

got the ear padding back on took me about half an hour at least

distortion still there, ive emailed for help but tbh im really dissapointed in these

Well I tried to warn people with my previous post. :(

Maybe you also had a faulty amp. The volume on mine will go nice and loud without any hint of distortion. Also it could be the signal is already heavily amped by your soundcard, in which case as soon as the headphone amp starts amping the signal you'll get distortion. I don't get this with mine, but maybe your soundcard is much louder than my Audigy 2.

As long as you're buying them for movies and games and not for serious music listenning, I think they do an excellent job.

Got mine today and so far so good - no problems at all, work faultlessly and are more than loud enough in BF2 without maxing any of the volume controls...

Fingers crossed they stay this way :)

think it is fautly amp, thats what speed link said. i also tried the headphones with the lead that converts end of headset into headphone jack, it is only 2 channels but that was fine

i think its just the amps a bit dodgy

heres my review if amp was working and from waht ive used them so far

Pro's:

Excellent Base, headset actually rumbles
Great volume
Comfortable

not tried 5 channles yet

cons:

none that i can see :)

I agree, mine are very good.

They really help give you an "edge" in on-line fps games.

You can tell where the enemy is sneaking up on you from etc.

Really helps to create a full immersion into the game.

I am just going to buy myself another pair of a different make.

My first pair of Medusas fell apart.

Second pair, came WITHOUT a USB cable.. lol yeh...

My third and current pair now buggers up with loud noises and the microphone has stopped working.

Pile of pish. Avoid them.

how did you go about getting them exchanged?

I use to use mine a lot, abosulty LOVED them.

BUT!

I had a lot of static for some reason, and in quieter parts of a game or movie etc it became very annoying.

I still cant get mine working, I have an Audigy 2 ZS which I bought from OcUK as a OEM, I did however manage to find the drivers and software for my Audigy 2 ZS. I have plugged the power and headphones into the amp, and I have plugged the 3 wires into my sound card in the correct colour slots, but the amp doesnt have any colour slots so where does the red, green and blue wires plug into the amp exactly? I have my speakers set to 5.1 and the center speakers sound ok, but the front and rear's sound absolutely terrable, I cant even hear the front speaker and the rear is just badly distorted and extremely quiet. I have tried changing the volumes etc in the software but the front and rear just wont work. What am I doing wrong? It's almost been a week and I still havent got these things working. I can include pics if you want.

I just need to know which wire is which.. What is the red, blue and green wire?

EDIT: Think I might have it working now, I plugged the wires into the wrong sockets in my sound card, I just thought blue went in the blue socket, red went in the red socket, and green went in the green socket, but obviously not.

No they're not colour coded correctly (although the mic input is the correct fetching pink :D) for any sound card I've ever seen - a strange ommission that. I also experienced the hissing initially last night when I was setting them up, but one of the previous posters is right - if you turn down the volume on the inline controls and up at the amp and/or onscreen volume control the hiss is eliminated.

One question from me though... what is the CD/DVD switch for on the inline control???
