Speedlink Medusa 5.1 Headset Owners' Thread

Just bought a set of these from Overclockers, couple of questions if anyone can help.

Read in reviews about the CD / DVD switch on the inline control I know it changes them from stereo to 5.1 so to speak ? But mine don't have this switch, they just have 4 independant volume controls, one of them is called "VIB" so

1, are thier 2 revisions one with switch, 1 without ?
2, VIB control what does it mean or do ?

thx for any help :)

lol cheers m8, sounds like a womans sort of thing all that Vibration ;)

Got them set up and tested in BF2 and CSS hard to believe how much of a differance they make compared to my old stereo cans :)

Just need to tweak them a bit now untill they're not just good but excellent.

Admit they can't beat my 5.1 speakers, but they are virtually unused now because the missus has a fit when the walls start to shake if it kicks off big time in BF :) (My game of the moment i'm afraid)

All I need now is to find out aout the CD /DVD switch or lack of ?

thx m8

That was only in older models. The Rev 2 (so to speak) doesnt have that switch. I have the same ones you do. I'm glad you like them, I personally wonder how I ever played games & watched movies in plain boring stereo sound :D

just ordered a audigy 2 ZS to go with mine, the onboard sound im using is awfull :p hope i get some good results, cost enough for a soundcard!

I just did that same upgrade and you wont regret it, the combination of the two is awesome :D

Surprised anyone has a problem setting these up  The colour of the wires is irrelevant, you just have to connect up front/rear/centre to the front/rear/centre outputs on your soundcard. You should have some documentation somewhere for your soundcard (either a paper manual or a pdf one on the drivers cd) that tells you which jack is which.

Even if you don't, you can just connect them one at a time and use the inline volume controls to identify which connection you made. Should take no more than 10 minutes to sort this out.

On another subject, mine must be rev 1 since I have the CD/DVD switch and no VIB control. I always use them in DVD mode naturally. I still think they're great and use them all the time when I want to game late at night, and they haven't dropped to bits either :p

hi guys

when i run a 5.1 test on these headphones the rear right speaker does not work. its not the headphones because i have tried them on my brothers computer they work and his has the same problem as mine on my pc. i have a audigy zs 7.1 soundcard and he has a audigy 5.1 card. i have tried all combinations of wires but to no avail. all my speakers work through the headphone amp. all my drivers are up to date. any ideas guys ?

I've just installed a x-fi and also have medusa 5.1s.

For the people who have both, do you have CMSS-3D Surround turned on for gaming and if so have you set it to stereo xpand or stereo surround.

No, mine don't do that.

That only applies for games that do only stereo sound or for listenning to stereo music btw, but yes you should have CMSS-3D on, and you should experiment to see which setting sounds better. Personally I use 'stereo surround'.

Yeah, I have that problem too. It's friggin' annoying  I was just about to post a new thread asking if anyone knew how to fix this problem :(

these headphones are very uncomfortable for my ears - I'm used to my nice Sennheiser HD580's and these are hard to wear for extended periods :( saying that though they are nice in games, however I prefer to use my Sennheisers for listening to music and watching dvd's

i have had mine for a good month or so now and i love them to bits, excellent sound quality and an excellent microphone, only problem i have is if i have had them on for a while and i take them off the tops of my ears are often red and sore but i can live with it for such a great set of headphones

Do you have them set as Surround or Headphones? Also, I've noticed during the 5.1 test that the bass is virtually non existant, is that normal for these? Sounds OK during game btw.

Err... do you mean the soundcard speakers setting? That has to be on 5.1 speakers, or you won't get surround sound through them. They work exactly like anologue 5.1 speakers.

The bass test signal should be silent, nothing to worry about there. It's a peculiarity of how 5.1 speakers work, they don't use the seperate bass channel, instead they use the bass from the other front and rear channels. Hence when you change the subwoofer volume in windows, it has no effect, but when you change bass (which applies to all channels), it does.

Have had these headphones for about 8 months now n think they aren't owt special. Just glad they only cost me £27 because if they were any more I dont see how the price could have been justified.
