have you got a wireless connection? If my wireless adapter is too near the amp box I get interference.

it sits ontop of my tower, which is under a desk, my wireless keyboard / mouse reciever 1 foot length ways and about 4 inches in height away from the amp. i also have a phone near as in mobile but thats quite far away.

Has anyone get any idea if these headphones will work with an xbox at all ?

Well they'll work but you won't get surround sound, just stereo. Xbox with standard cables outputs analogue stereo, or digital optical output with an additional cable. But these headphones don't have a dolby digital decoder or indeed any digital inputs.

They can work with a DVD player if it has a built in decoder and seperate outputs for 5.1 speakers. If that DVD player also had a digital optical input (which they almost all don't), then you could get surroud sound through the Medusa's by connecting xbox->dvd player->medusa amp, or you could use a dedicated AV receiver, as long as it had digital optical input and the right speaker outputs.

So the answer is yes, but only with some rather specialized equipment. Just with a plain xbox, they'll only work in stereo.

what kind of noise problem is it?

Thanks for the reply m8, I do have an AV amplifier/receiver does that mean I might be able to get the 5.1 from the xbox in to the headphones ??. I would have pm'ed you but its not working for me. Do you use any instant messaging programs at all, if so could you add me

Cheers

It all depends on what outputs your AV receiver has. If it has these ones highlighted in the green box -

- then you just connect those up to this lead which came with your medusa's-

- and connect those with the tripple phono lead into your Medusa amp. You'll have to be very careful though with the volumes on the AV reciever and your Medusa amp, because the signal is being amplified twice, so you'll want to keep them both pretty low to avoid distortion. Of course you also need to connect your xbox to the receiver through an optical cable.

If you receiver only has the regular hi-fi speaker outputs (screw or clip double wires) for use with hi-fi speaker wiring, then I don't know a way to connect those to the Medusa amp. You can always check yor DVD player on the off chance it has the right connections.

My e-mail address is [email protected] btw. I don't use instant messenger programs often.

Hi guys, wonder if anybody can help me, recently bought a pair of The USB Speed Link medusa's from ocuk, and am having major problems with the headset, well when they work they are great, but the drivers are making me go insane.

The problems range from

sound randomly going/cutting out
unable to switch from stereo to mic without restarting system
when unplugging the headphones from system, causes the system to crash

I have tried the new drivers from speed link and so forth, googling/searching forums hasnt turned up any likely fixes either, last ditch effort for a resolution when i came across this thread.

Thanks in advance guys

Got exactly the same problems as you shaz and I'm starting to think maybe there's a reason there's a 2-page thread of people with complaints about them!
Well, that, and also that I should've gone for the normal headphone-jack ones rather than the USB.
Like you, the sound sometimes randomly stops, sometimes after 5' use, sometimes after 30', all the while with no background programs active except whatever I had been playing all that time. When that happens I also can't switch back to normal (on-board Soundstorm) output after unplugging them. Switching them off and then back on again does nothing to help, I also have to quit all running applications that use sound in order to get it to switch back.
Strangely, I also find that the drivers interfere with Logitech's iTouch, meaning my keyboard's extra buttons (volume controls etc.) don't work while I'm using them. Well, they work some of the time, actually, which is all the stranger...

Contacted Speedlink with the problem, got a reply the very next morning (not bad), which said:
this Problem is a Timing issue in the NVidia Chipset, the only solution that can help is to disable the Onboard Soundcard in the Bios. Does this not help there is in the Moment for this Mainboard no solution.
This is a bit puzzling for me as I seem to remember a couple of people in this thread saying they had NF7-S mobos as well and for them it worked fine!
Also, I wonder whether I would have this problem with other USB headsets as well, or if it's just the Medusas.
I guess they're going back though... pity!

I got the headphones yesterday and don't really like them at all the mids and highs are good but the bass is pathetic. I'll stick with my sennheiser Px200's as they are a hell of a lot better. I'll just chuck the Medusas on ebay !

Got mine (non-usb) about a month ago when they first came back into stock.

Sure, build quality could be better.. But setup & sound wise I've had no problems at all. Meaty bass, can easily distinguish between each channel which really helps a lot in CSs.
Mic is also very good quality.

Main problem I've had is one of the foam pads popped off but TBH that was down to it being caught on a table corner. Took 2 mins to shoehorn the dodgy 'faux leather' back in place and all sorted.

To be honest it's been said plenty of times in this thread that they're not hi-fidelity headphones and not good enough for music. They're for gaming in 5.1 when it's too late to use speakers. Also mine have plenty of bass.

Yep, mine have already been RMA'd - well within the 10 day cooling-off period anyhow. The question is whether they'll accept the email I got from Speedlink tech support (see above) as proof that the cans are actually "defective", so that I can claim back the £8 I spent to send them back to them too! I mean, the guy's reply indicates that it was KNOWN that the Medusas don't work with (certain) NVidia chipsets, but it was certainly not indicated on their website. His suggestion that I switch off Sound Storm in the BIOS is certainly not an acceptable solution as that means I have to reboot if I unplug the cans, and the entire POINT of having USB headphones is for the effortlessness of simply plugging them in and out, so I'd say they don't fulfill the purpose for which they were intended and should therefore be classed as defective. In support of this, I pressed the guy from Speedlink on whether there might be a driver update that would solve the problem, and he said there might be an update in January, which CLEARLY goes to show that the problem isn't with the NVidia chipset but with the cans themselves!

After reading plenty of good things about these i decided to grab a pair myself.

I just had them delivered today and was wondering if anyone could comment on the rear channels. I've been playing css and mine seem to deliver rear sound that is nothing like the other channels, it's quite tinny with no bass and it's quite distracting, especially when i'm turning round.

This may just be the way they are, in which case i don't think i'm content with.

I have them plugged into an Audigy 2 ZS card. Any help appreciated.

Mine don't do that. If I run the speaker settings thingy (I also have Audigy 2 ZS) and hit the 'channel' button that does the 'front left, front right etc' voice thing, they all sound pretty much the same to me, none are tinny.

Do you have the newer version of the Medusa's with the VIB control (I have the older ones without it), and are your Medusa's USB or non-USB (mine are non-USB)?
