SPL season 2012-13

They weren't expelled.

Aberdeen's increase in crowd on the first game of the season was pretty decent, particularly against a small team. I doubt they they will build on it though as they were pretty poor.

I don't know too much about what exactly 'Sell Out Saturday' involved,

Nothing other than Celtic fans trying to be clever, clubs did little to back it

Seem Lawell is right though, celtic dont need rangers in the SPL, they are quite capable of making a hash of winning it on their own

Yes they were. The non transferal of their SPL share was an expulsion. Given that the clubs SFA membership was transferred, newco or not they are the same club. But that argument/ debate is for another thread...

The Aberdeen crowd increase was impressive. An increase of slightly over 50% of their average attendance last season. By anybodies measure, that has to be considered fantastic. It is important that it isn't just a 1 off though as a way of sticking two fingers up towards Rangers and those that say the SPL needs Rangers. If the SPL and the members are to prosper then they need the fans to click through the turnstiles, now more than ever.

In fairness, I don't think Celtic or their supporters had much to do with it. They didn't even have a game that week due to having a friendly arranged with Real Madrid in the US.

I believe Sell-Out Saturday was a campaign primarily driven by the Aberdeen support - who also appear to be the only support who backed it.

Whether you like it or not, the economics are part and parcel of the football.

SPL attendances have had their ups and downs for much of the last 10 years.

There's absolutely nothing to be gained from trying to examine attendances in the first 2 games of the season in minute detail. Let's just wait and see what happens over the next few weeks and months, instead of debating something which may, or may not be an issue.

Can we just focus on enjoying the football this year?

Back on topic, an injury time goal for Celtic, but it looks like Ross County should still be extending their unbeaten run to 37 games. Quite an achievement!!

And the plan was for their fans to attend other SPL games that week as is documented on many football forums

SPL attendances have been in decline for much of the last 10 years.

Considering there was a campaign called "Sell-Out Saturday", then there is much to be gained by looking at the attendance figures. You may not agree. That is fine, we can save the discussion for the next "SPL team x in administration" thread and go back and look at the figures I posted to examine whether the writing was on the wall as early as August.

Your desire to push an agenda is tiring. SPL teams have been struggling for years now. This year may potentially be harder financially, but everyone knows that and the situation is what it is.

I'm out.

So it is preferable to just accept that and not look at why and what could potentially be done to reverse such trends?

I think that people would prefer to discuss the football in this thread. If you wish to discuss issues that affect all of Scottish Football then make a new thread and have the debate you crave there.

I would like to see changes in the SPL, would love a 16 team top league for a start but yeah will drag this off-topic if we go into all that.

I certainly don't buy into all the negativity anyway, I quite enjoy Scottish football and don't think it is a walk-over - just look at today, another hard game for Celtic!

I think a draw was a fair result, Celtic had a few good chances to merit a goal but certainly not a win! Britton looked a bit handy for County, cracked a great strike off the bar after his free-kick goal!

Agreed.

I have Briton down for the second goal and for Ross County to score the second. My missus almost had a heart attacked when he hit the bar and I leapt off the sofa.

Todays results:

Ross County 1-1 Celtic
Hearts 2-2 Inverness Caley Thistle
Kilmarnock 1-2 Motherwell
St Johnstone 1-2 Aberdeen
St Mirren 1-2 Hibernian

Slightly disappointed with that, letting a two goal lead go against a team with 10 men for all of the second half. Top of the table on goal difference for now but need to do better.

This weekends fixtures:

Predictions

Heart v Inverness - DRAW
Kilmarnock v Motherwell - AWAY
Ross County v Celtic - AWAY
St Johnstone v Aberdeen - DRAW (nil nil)
St Mirren v Hibs - AWAY
Dundee Utd v Dundee - HOME

Thoughts?

Heart v Inverness - DRAW :p
Kilmarnock v Motherwell - AWAY :p
Ross County v Celtic - AWAY
St Johnstone v Aberdeen - DRAW
St Mirren v Hibs - AWAY :p
Dundee Utd v Dundee - HOME

3 out of 5 not a good set of predications for me this week !

Celtic will have burst everybody's coupon, I don't think that result was predictable, it's even more incredible that Celtic scraped the draw in injury time.

Dundee United 3 - 0 Dundee

Great victory for us.

Ref ruined it though wit the two red cards - neither should have seen red !

Anyhoo - top of the league !!!!!!
