Stalker 2

Yeah but you wouldn't get the kind of immersion being talked about here, which is only possible with a certain type of driver such as a planar, and you don't have to spend loads to get even a half decent planar from say hifiman as they cover a wide budget range.

Hmmm I still think you can. Sound stuff is really subjective, two people can listen to the same headphone, one can say it's all right and the other can be like they've had a out-of-body experience.
Despite trying a wide range of headphones going up to, I think £500, I always came back to the K712.
I use Audeze Maxwell for the wireless convenience and those are pretty much the cheapest planars you can get I'd imagine.
I still think the AKG sounds better which were £112.

There's no escaping subjective nature of sound yeah, though at one point raw physics comes into its own, a large planar will always produce the superior low end extensions that games can benefit from, for example.

The rest is down to the individual characteristics like stereo imaging and whatnot.

I owned the Sennheiser HD650 for nearly 12 years for gaming and music, back then they cost £220, today they cost more than that! They can still be classed as a gold standard for near reference quality sound but not long ago I got a taste of what is possible with planars and now here we are :o

Stalker 2 Dev GSC Game World Explains for the First Time What Went Wrong With A-Life 2.0, and Why It Was Removed From the Game’s Description on Steam

Makes sense, shame it couldn’t be a toggle option for high end systems. Would love to see it back in properly and would give a good excuse for a second playthrough. That said, even a powerful system seems to struggle as it is, not sure there is much overhead to play with currently.

Crashes and memory leaks:
Multiple ACCESS_VIOLATION_ERROR fixes.
Multiple LowLevelFatalError crash fixes.

Controls adjustments:

According to your feedback, we adjusted following parameters/values to decrease input lag on keyboard+mouse input:
Mouse Smoothing is disabled by default.
Mouse Acceleration is disabled by default.

Additionally, default values of mouse sensitivity were updated to allow a predictable default experience for our players with new values of two parameters mentioned bellow:
Camera sensitivity: 25%.
Aim sensitivity: 15%.

Main and Side missions:
Fixed issue with that were able to chase player outside during the In Search of Past Glory mission.
Fixed an issue where the NPCs would die after trying to enter a building during the mission On the Edge.
Fixed issue with which could despawn before player loots a collar from it during In the Name of Science mission.
Fixed issue with player potentially locking oneself during Dangerous Liaisons mission.
Fixed issue with becoming hostile upon noticing a player during King of the Hill mission.
Fixed an issue when despawns in front of the player after the dialog in the bunker during A Heavy Burden mission.
Fixed issue with NPC's despawning when player successfully finishes Legends of the Zone mission.

AI:
Fixed an issue with mutant bodies stretching after a shot from an automatic weapon.
Fixed an issue that caused NPCs to block the doors during the Back to the **** Heap mission.

Balance:
Fixed issue with not selling certain ammo types.

Saves:
Fixed issues with missing player saves after a hard reboot of the PC/Xbox.

why are the up[dates for this game always so damn big.
They don't patch the games actual fliles but replace the whole file or what?

like they need to change a few lines in a 10gb pak file your downloading the whole file or what?

23gb patch for the above changes makes no sense and the so called "day one patch" was basically reviewers redownloading the whole game :S

Maybe time to upgrade from your 56k dial up? :D

New patch is fantastic, it only took about 3 mins for my game to CTD :D:D:D

/edit Game has now crashed 3 times in a row at the same spot. Officially unplayable for me now.

Developer has revealed why a-life2.0 is broken

They've confirmed that for it to work correctly the radius cone needs to be much wider - which is exactly what that mod does

And we know the mod kills performance and the developers has stated the same thing - they had to pull the radius in otherwise this game had no chance of running on consoles. But unfortunately because the system was designed to work over a large area, when the radius is pulled in, it breaks a bunch of stuff

PC is a weird beast

40 hours and not a single crash for me so far
That's crazy. I've had more CTD's with this game than any other I can remember.

On the plus side I have had pretty much zero stuttering that everyone seems to go on about. Aside from the crashing, it runs really well on my PC.

Sorry what is a life? Do I need to download a life ?

It does make sense after seeing what some of the mods to resolve the system have revealed. Just looking back at the old games, you could run with Anomaly/Misery mods and have simulation distance cranked all the way up, but performance absolutely tanked, even with it being broken down into zones.

Hopefully they keep working at it and can come up with a solution that sits as a nice balance in the middle somewhere, no doubt the modders given enough time will be able to keep digging and maybe figure out something themselves eventually.
