Just read a post on the official forums regarding heat issues and how much strain it puts onto peoples graphics cards. They said type: /perFrameSleep number_of_ms in game, but replacing number_of_ms with a value such as 10.
Not sure what happens exactly as they never said, just thought I'd mention
Yes, it used to kill my 4870X2 - but that is just because it doesnt like dual GPUs. Once I disabled one it was fine. No such problem on my 5970!
Yeah I understood that I left the question a little vague and open-ended, perhaps deliberately as it is always subjective.
What did you find good about it and what was bad? I love the idea, but generally dont like MMOs (although maybe thats because I got burned on the P.O.C. that was star wars galaxies).
What I found bad about it was the heavy instancing, oh god the loading screens...soo many loading screens, lack of MMO feel to it (for me anyway), very restricted gameplay (at least from what I saw), and pretty much everything else really. It simply didnt fulfil any of the requirements that I look for in an MMO (UO, Daoc). Theres just no way I would pay monthly for what I saw.
Firstly, I only see loading screens for 4 seconds max
. Did you play to Lt11? The game gets so much better then! Also, a new patch was just released that is supposed to seriously speed up loading screens.
As most here know, I just purchased a lifetime sub. This is star trek. No one has ever made a great star trek game (except Elite Force and Bridge Commander). New star trek games are rare, extremly so - and this could be our last!
No game is perfect, but I definitely support Cryptic. It is obvious to me that they listen to the community and try their best. People say they did not listen to the City of Heroes community, but I was not there and they do not sound like that now. The more people support this game, the more it will live up to its potential.
Lots of questions seem to come up quite often:
**
Why buy a game based on potential? (common argument i've seen on thread) My answer, because this is an MMO. We pay to see new content added, etc.
***
Where is the MMO in this MMO? (another common argument) My answer,:in the netrual zone or automatic teaming on specific missions. There are designated meeting sites for PvP players AND the ability to have a fleet with their OWN currrency. In addition, you can team up with anyone you want for any PvE mission out there.

That's not enough PvP, why pay $15 a month? My answer: PvE comes in the form of EPISODES... this means we can expect SERIES of episodes (whole seasons if you will) on a semi-regular basis. I do not have to dread the day I finish this game and find I've done EVERYTHING possible. I have a family and I work full time... I will NEVER be able to do EVERYTHING possible. Thats PvE... I imagine more PvP will be added. But keep in mind... STO and Cryptic are heavily focused on PvE. I'm on of those people who like that.

My lvl capped too quickly in beta, once I cap after launch, whats left for me to do? My answer: EXPLORE. Try the game again with a different character and/or class... i've seen this question in other threads. If you'ved finished everything there is in the first month, then you spent too much time playing it. Even so... if you do, keep talking on the forums about what you think was good and what could be added. Cryptic will listen.

What about immersion, why isn't there more? I don't think they can satisfy everyone completley. Look at it this way. Most MMO startups have to have money in order to succeed. They usually have money from other games they sold... Cryptic had a little, but not enough. Atari came in and bought them out... thus giving them a cash flow. They made Champions which has been a hit so far. With this cash flow, they have created STO ahead of schedule. Once STO is launched, they can focus on fixing bugs AND adding features/content that we want to see. Right now, they are only concerned about bugs. (Granted, thats only my perspective) Because of the limited budget they had and enormous creativity on their side... I think they did a good job of balancing EFFICIENCY and CREATIVITY.
I also like the the game isn't just another WoW clone - space combat and ground combat really help break it up.
Anyway... the answers above only reflect my opinion. Just thought I would share
