Star Trek Online

3d movement, but no Top or Bottom shields.
So if you get hit from the top and bottom it doesn't hit any shields and hits your ship directly? or is it more of like the picture below and it's a 3D bubble around your ship in quadrants but the game view shields are just minimised so you don't look like you have a constant bubble around your ship? Also sorry, hard to draw a 3D sphere in MS Paint but you should get the idea.

I forgot I had this preordered from the Rainforest chaps, hopefully I'll get my code over the weekend and get my new wireless router by Tuesday. :D

Thanks for the clear up about the shields :) and for the vids! space fighting just looks ridiculously awesome, roll on Tuesday!

Im really tempted to pick this up tbh. Been waiting for a decent space game and im a fan of star trek so this seems as good as any :). As others have said im surprised at how good its looking tbh.

Aye, I thought it was just going to be a stop-gap before SW:TOR, but it's looking like I'm going to have to spread my time very thinly between both games!

Quite looking forward to this now, my mate is a little more sceptical about it.. i'm a little reserved but I think that's because i've been spoiled by EVE so much, I don't ever see me giving that up.

Firstly, a reminder of the dates for those who don't know:

***Released 2nd Feb 2010 in the USA and 5th Feb 2010 in Europe***
************ Open Beta 1/12/10 – 1/26/10 *****************
************* Head Start 1/29/10-2/2/10 ******************

ah well hush hush, its only a matter of days now anyway :P

Don't worry, we won't tell :)

I think most of us are suprised. Firstly, after Champions we were expecting something watered down and not very good. I didn't get into STO beta until late, but so many of us were shocked by how good it is graphically and how Star Trek it feels. Since then (and in a very short period of time) they have released a number of patches with a load of changes - most of which of gone down really well. Unlike Champions that went backwards with each patch, STO is evolving into something special. In addition to this, there is just so much potential.

2nd of Feb, i wish they would hurry up and show the subscription fees to see if there are deals to be had, like 6 month or a lifetime sub.

Same. I would love to get a lifetime sub, but I just can't see them offering these until a few months to a yera down the road. It is Star Trek, so they know they don't need that initial pile of money. Plus, by releasing in Feb Atari are giving them something like a $17 million bonus.
