Best advice any sensible person can give.

Give it a go yourself (perhaps wait for free trials that will appear within a few months) and see what you think. Probably better waiting a few months for the initial bugs to be ironed out anyway.

At least Cryptic got it out of the door - personally I would rather have this than nothing. Perpetual went bankrupt developing the impossible, as did a developer before them (forgot the name).

I was really looking forward to a Stargate MMO too. Tbh I don't think we will see a great MMO again (except possibly TOR and anything Blizzard put out). The money just isn't there anymore and the projects either get the can or rushed.

Do the missions - hail starfleet to get them (Press J and the option should be on the bottom left).

You should not even leave the starting sector at level 3. You also cant get a new ship until level 11.

Yes, I have heard that. Think I may end up getting an escort.

Have ordered a Logitech G13 - should arrive by Friday.

Also a heads up for tonight - there is an open beta even from 10pm until 2am our time. There are supposed to be "surprises" at some point also :D

I mainly want it for two reasons - comfort, STO kills my hand and the joystick for ship control (should imagine the macros would be quite useful at higher levels also).

Played around with mines at commander level, with Eject warp plasma and was ok.. but prefer torps.. now if i could fit mines at front of ship would do so.. but in a big cruiser with only 3 aft slots, I find its essential to have a torp there because npc ships like to keep you facing away from them. Trying out a defiant class now :D

I have been working on the assumption that they stack, but I could be completely wrong on this!

I was planning on playing as a cruiser, but they just don't work.

Basically this ^^. Given that there is no death penalty and that Cryptics games are always geared towards DPS, escorts seem like the only choice to me. I may buy a cruiser later on just to have some fun with.
 
Anyone know where we need to be for the event? I have parked my self in the system next to Quo'nos - I couldnt enter the system with Quo'nos in it, perhaps I am too low in level? Hopefully they will give us more direction.

Regardless, with no death penalty it doesnt matter. On average you will still put out more DPS than *most* cruisers - and if you play it right (e.g. right skills and abilities) you will every time.
