When you die your ship crew die. The less crew you have the worse your ships performs.

When you respawn it seems your energy and crew are diminished but these regnerate so quickly that in the 30 seconds or so it takes for you to rejoin the fray you're back to full health.

From what I can tell skill points, items and mission progress are completely unaffected. So, for the moment, at least "death" has no discernable consequences.

Having an absolute blast. Just made it to captain and got the defiant! The space battles are really good and I cant get enough of it. Not much grinding at all even to captain so far as theres plenty of missions. They are a bit samey but they can be challenging and rewarding.

Not even touched pvp yet...

Can't wait to get to captain, at lt.cmdr 5.5 at the mo. Heavily going down the escort route just so I can effectively fly the defiant, which was my fav ship in the TV series.

Commander 9 here - was mostly focusing on getting items to sell though. Now that is done, back to levelling.

Annoyingly had two bugged quests - Breaking the Planet (cant place charges) and Ground Zero which did not register as complete - skip Ground Zero, it is annoying anyway without the fact that it is bugged.

Still wish i was in a cruiser, but will probably buy one endgame.

Heres a youtube clip of some of the missions ive been doing.

He is a lot higher lvl than me so cuts through enemies a bit better.

That guy is making it difficult for himself. Just get into range, all power to forward shields and keep the enemy in front of you - then again, I have turrets on the rear, so can always bring all weapon slots onto the enemy infront of me. Looking forward to getting my new ship :)

I do that (jam enemy sensors + tractor beam) then evasive manouvers and high yield torps out the back to finish them off.

Works well even against battleships 2 levels above me.

Two quests were completely bugged for me, you may wish to take caution doing them, as their bugged bits are about 30 - 40 minutes into the quests which was harsh. Both are at Captain level

First was "Badlands", I finished the full mission but it wouldn't mark itself as complete, so I couldn't hand it in. Second was a quest involving DS9 where you get hailed when you approached it, first bit involves killing some turrets. This bugged about half way through and I couldn't advance.

Just a warning, although with two patches since they might have been fixed.

Well i caved and just picked up a retail copy. Hope the install and updates dont take too long. Far too many games to play now :D

Not bugged for me, I did them no problem. Got my Star cruiser yesterday, its nice :D

You guys have way to much time on your hands! :(

Agreed! I've been putting in a few hours a night since release, and I'm Lieutenant 5 at the moment! Admittedly I didn't play the beta so I'm doing a lot of wandering around exploring and finding out what does what, but still.

well darn you lot are ripping through things .. I'm still on opening ship and lt 9 ..

definately addictive ... and so far not got too bored by the missions being similar (although different enough not to be the same old same old)

Slowly working my way through the missions ... avoiding Starbase 24 until i gets me a bigger gun :D
