Is play the only place still selling with codes for beta access?

Interesting that you dont think its canon. I mean its officially licensed, many of the books are written by people who worked directly upon many episodes of the various series of Star Trek.

I've always taken the storyline within the books as Canon. It certainly does mess about somewhat with what I have always considered a very fleshed out universe if nothing in the books is accepted as part of the official timeline.

Its interesting for instance that the Path to 2409 timeline lists Bacco as president. The only place that Bacco is ever mentioned as President is within the Novels. Theres no mention of her in any tv show or film as far as I'm aware. Equally interesting is that in that Path to 2409 timeline, Data is the Captain of the Enterprise after being rebuilt by Soong and La Forge. Again..the only place where that is the storyline is in the Star Trek comics. I can only assume then that they have decided that some parts of the books are right and other parts are wrong. Would certainly seem that some aspects of the books are canon then.

Maybe then there is still hope that the Borg will eventually be a playable race. Personally though I would hope for Romulans as playable, always fancied roleplaying a Romulan, interesting character traits for roleplaying and their ships are plain sexy

Beta starts the 12th, you can register your key and download via the file planet launcher but thats it.

No, if you don't like the beta you can cancel before launch without a penny having came out of your account. I'd make sure you cancel at least 7 days before the money is due to come out of your account though.

As a side note, apparently D2D now has the open beta client up.

Hopefully thats able to be patched upto from the closed beta client and not a brand spanking new client. Will be mayhem if everyone in open beta has to download the gigs again before tuesday

imagine it will and that the OB client is a more up to date package, but i hadnt downloaded either fully and this one dls a lot quicker than the cryptic downloader

Hopefully it will be a couple of gigs bigger than that. All of the patches combined from the closed beta must be somewhere around 12Gb now, and I am expecting another big patch before open beta. Not sure how the patches stack though, I guess some could overwrite existing files. Still, we have had some huge patches! Cryptics patching server will die for open beta and release...it always does, even though it will have been upgraded recently :rolleyes:

the fileplanet CB client is as close as youll get as afaik D2D are the only ones with the "OB" client

You can get the downloader from fileplanet http://www.fileplanet.com/208768/200000/fileinfo/Star-Trek-Online-:-Downloader---Utility that seems to be the only way to get it so far unless you pre-ordered from direct2drive. It only just appeared on there though, so hopefully there will be another way soon as the downloader is slow as hell.

So is this the open beta client that you are all downloading? Wonder how much you will have to patch it up for open beta. Hopefully it goes better than the first two days of Champions open beta!

well assuming the dating on the packages is right the OB client download was packaged as of yesterday so i can presume that the only things to download will be whatever they change between yesterday and the 12th, the CB client people are sourcing was packaged on the 28/12, they will have a lot more to patch but well, getting the core files out of the way makes the job easier

Also, is it just me who's missing his beta access code? My flatmate got his at 6am this morning even though he pre-ordered several hours after me. We preordered ages ago back when the Gold Edition was £17.98 at the rainforest.
