Star Trek Online

I guess you also missed all the newly added events, and the entire DOFF system.

I did, your irreverent tone aside; the duty officer system from a new players perspective isn't gameplay, it's fire and forget akin to the swtor's crew skills, you don't DO anything accept click a few button then ignore it.

The events thing looks cool, I'll look in to that, that's gameplay!

this is still my favourite ship :D

I'm a little confused about Boffs. So, I have one for each slot on my ship, I understand that. Then any additional ones I get sit in a queue where I can switch them in if they have better skills. But they also give me an option to 'Train up' instead?

At the moment, I have two tactical officers, and one of the other two. I'm happy with my higher level Toff as he has Cannon: Rapid Fire I and Cannon: Scatter Volley II, and I'm using dual heavy cannons on my escort. But is there any way to increase these to Lv II or even III?

Also, I have a blue tactical officer candidate not doing anything at the moment. Is it possible to see what skills he has? Blue's obviously rare, but what does this actually mean? Better skills? Higher level skills?

Also, any chance Iviv Aitylin@Iviv66 could get an invite? Thanks!

in short, yes you can get MK I,II,II etc of some skills, but to be brutally honest you wont see much difference in them, i suggest if you are new to play around with some skills or just read them and see what ones sound best to YOU there really is no right or wrong build (unless your a hardcore pvp nerd)

rarity in Boffs is another thing you dont really need to worry about (some have unique skills only obtained through them) there are VERY VERY slight differences in their racial traits and stats - again nothing that you will ever see a gain in, just pick ones you like the look/sound of and go at it.

by the time you reach level cap, your boffs will be decked out with awesome gear, but even if its all basic common stuff you still wont have any trouble, unless you play every mission on elite difficulty.

Thanks. I'm aiming at having a fast, quick turning escort so I can just sit behind whatever I'm shooting, tear through the rear shields with cannons and then torpedo them to pieces. I'm in the base Escort at the moment, with two dual heavy cannons and a torpedo launcher in the fore banks, and a turret in the aft since that can still hit in front of me, and I don't plan on spending much time where they aren't directly in front of me.

Skill wise, everything is focussing on these factors, aiming for cannon skills like my main tactical Boff has, and speed/turning skills for the others.

Anyway, I've got a blue Boff who has useless skills to me, what is the 'train up' option I get with him, and what does it actually do?

There's a crew skills npc in spacedock that lets you swap and change your boff skills. Just bear in mind that you loose any training points for skills that you drop, so give them the skills you want as soon as you take them on.

The train up option lets you train one of the abilities from that boff to one of your comissioned boffs.

Various rank 3 abilities (target subsystems, beam overload, etc) are only available from rare boffs and thats how you transfer them from a boff that you don't want to use (for looks reasons or whatever) to one you do use.

Would like to know, is this game worthwhile if I don't intend on paying a single penny?

Is the f2p limited, if so in what way. Limited character slots/bag slots etc I can deal with. Limited quests...would have to think twice about it.

Cheers

All quests, missions and the like are unlocked for everyone. You only pay for stuff like extra ships (there are still a large batch of free ships), character slots, bags, and are limited to so much money on free. You can even get everything in the store shop without useing real money as you can exchange ingame money for store credit.

What about future expansion packs?

Will there be any, will they just be integrated into the core game.

at the rate the game gets additional (non C-store) content no...there are never going to be expansions, unless of course they pull their finger out and which case there might be.

but as it is currently you are looking at a game update of 2-3 mission arcs (featured episode weeks) per year with 1-2 game updates (seasons)

and so far none have been charged for.

The cryptic staff on the forums are a right bunch of pansies i must say, especially MODQ for whatever reason HE/SHE/IT has no sense of humor nor do they know what sarcasm is. They must own cryptic/PWE for the way they run around like a headless chicken once a word is said out of place about HIS/HER/IT's precious game/company (not even a rude or distasteful comment either) talk about not being able to take criticism...

on a side note... 12 forum infraction points for no real reason (unless there is secret rules that they don't tell us to abide by...) poor person can only feel needed when they hand out infractions for no reason, bless. All this considering i have not posted on the STO websites forums in well over 3 months. i guess they have to make up reasons to keep on living, and i thought my life was bad! :p
