If it was, it's not a beta code. All it does is give you a special unform once the game comes out.
Bah, well that serves me right for not reading the whole thread. Oh well, I don't really care about the game anyway, was only going to try it because I noticed the key. If the game can't do a simple beta then it's not worth wasting my time on. I'm not willing to waste my time on something that has outdated graphics, and can't even manage to do a proper beta.
Oh well, good thing It only wasted an hour to download and 30 min of reading this thread/creating account/installing.

Why isn't it a proper Beta. It very much is a proper Beta test or what in the old days was called a load or stress test. Are you saying it's not a proper beta because you can't get hold of a key? that's a little egocentric isn't it!

Yup, the graphics are pretty intensive. My old 4870X2 had serious issues with Cryptic's engine.
lol fair does, i had to make some custom fan profiles to stop my card from cooking itself
well going by how limited the number of keys are, which I would accept a couple months before release, but such a limited beta when the game goes live before the end of the month. Which brings me to another point, a 2 week open beta isn't much, it seems to me that either the game will not be fully tested in that time, or it was rushed to be released earlier than intended forcing a short beta.
I would also expect more phases in the beta, perhaps even localized beta testing as I have read that some people in the UK and elsewhere in europe have ping problems.
I've played much worse betas (saga of ryzom), but it is FAR from decent.
I admit, I havn't read in depth about the game, or been following it, but it just doesn't seem anything special or solid like other MMOs.

yeah everytime i try and complete starbase 24 i get kicked and the 20 battle cruser parts! grrrrr anyone else annoyed at the lack of 360 degree movment on your spaceship there are limits to your x and y but at leeast they have fixed the left and right , instead fo port and starboard
