I thought that would be 3 levels surely?
I.e.
Ensign 1 = 1 level
Ensign 2 = 2 levels
then you go to Lieutenant? which is level 3?

Or have i got it wrong?
 
Well i've played it quite a bit today and i'm still loving this game.

I'm a huge Star Trek fan and this is just what i wanted. Yes, some things could be improved but i think Cryptic have done a great job so far.

Anyone know the cheapest place to pre-order from?

I tried comparing the Klingon tier 2 ships with the Feds ones earlier and it seems Klingons got shafted in that area too. They only get the choice between Raptor and Bird of Prey, the Raptor feels like the equivilent of the fed escort and the Bird of Prey is just inferior due to having the same damage but massively reduced shields and hull.

Edit - forgot to mention that my fed escort does way more damage than either of the Klingon ships, there's a fair difference in gear but i doubt it's only down to that as i'm hitting nearly 10k crits on the escort and the best i had on the bird of prey was 5k.

Do you get kits from doing mission or do you need to buy them? Also whats the best way of making some money? I sold a few healing items but it didn't get me much.

Oh, one more thing, could someone give me an idea of which skills are worth raising? I know its different for each class but which are generally worth increasing? I'm a bit baffled by the skill system tbh.
 
I put all my points into the space ones from 1 - 11 like projectile and energy weapons etc. I did not put anything into ground combat.

kits you can buy or get given or get from mission rewards.
 
Well I just hit 11, got my free escort ship, tried it out with a few different setups and although 3 cannons up front and a set of mk2 qauntun mines is powerful, the 45 degree arc means to fire at a ship you will be always getting damaged on your forward ships, and even weaker ships can take down that shield fast if everything is hitting just the forward side all the time. I think the only way I could play using an escort is to have lasers instead of cannons. in which case it is the same as the light cruiser given at the start of the game but with 1 more front slot and 1 more tac console. Also I noticed you can only have 1 front weapon and 1 rear on auto fire, you cant have all energy weapons on auto fire and torps on manual :(
 
Right, im level 5 yeah, and every so often i pick up stuff like mk11 phasers and impulse engine, now can someone explain please how the hell i fit these onto my ship? and will i be able to fit all of them onto my ship???

even though i wont be able to ******* fit it anyway cos of the servers being busy!

Go to the shipyard section of starbase 01 (the one in Sol system), and one of the NPCs has the option to 'select your ship', which lets you choose which ship to fly if you have multiple, or to drag and drop different items onto your ship. I tried doing this earlier today on my new ship and it took between 2 and 5 min for each action to take place. So putting 6 items on a new ship took AGES!
 
Looks like its down.

Surely without a queue system the login is constantly getting hammerd anyway? I know when I get the server busy message I just hold down enter and wait till it connects.
