Star Trek: Picard

Do any of you watch Red Letter Media on youtube? They do some great reviews of Trek stuff. They are a bunch of bitter, middle aged nerds but they do seem to be cautiously optimistic after watching the first episode. A feeling I don't share!

They absolutely crucify the first 2 seasons of Picard as well as Discovery though.

Only for the last 12 years or so ;)

Captain Shaw is really growing on me. Crusher/Picard junior already has the punchable quality that his older brother had. By the end of the season in sure he'll be redeemed and they'll forget all his crimes. Seven of nine seems quite boring and predictable so far.

Story was quite predictable this week and didn't move on a massive amount from last week.

no one really seemed to bat an eyelid that there are ships roaming non federation space seemingly more advanced than Starfleet.

Had goosebumps when Beverly acknowledged Jean Luc is the father and he then Belays Shaw's orders and goes full on "dad" mode.

Raffi is too annoying. I fast forwarded all her parts at the beginning of the episode. Did the same near the end then saw a flash of Worf on screen and had to go back and rewatch it :D by pairing one of the coolest TNG characters with her, my plan to forward all her scenes have been scuppered!

Why didn’t they just do this in the previous 2 seasons? The mystery continues. Hopefully it continues more in this vein.

The only thing missing from the previous series is more of the “high-minded”, moral dimension of what life in the 24th Century is like. There’s a lot of action / violence at the moment (not a bad thing necessarily).

Edit - oh yeah, Jack seems like a bell but I’m sure he’ll turn out to have noble intentions.

Should've just booted her out, Raffi is just meh

In recent Trek the main threat has sometimes been a very heavily armed ship. You would think the geniuses in the Federation would build themselves a small number of very heavily armed ships to counter this sort of situation, maybe call them a Neo-Defiant? Granted they couldn't be everywhere in the galaxy at once but at least you could get them on the way to help out. Maybe station a few throughout Federation space.

Someone will always build a bigger gun.
