Star Trek: Picard

That would be awesome. I think that would improve future Star Trek content a lot!

It couldn't get any worse! lol...

Regarding your earlier statement about Picard, I'm pretty much totally in line with your opinion. It was great seeing some of the old faces but it was pure nostalgia with little of actual worth for me.

I just lolled out loud in the office, good job 90% of them are WFH :)

Haha... it's all I could think of when I read the thread. At least someone is enjoying it I guess. :p

I mean i hated those movies lol
You don’t by any chance also mean you hated Picard do you? :p

Yeah. It really cannot get much worse. How anyone can think putting Alex Kurtzman or whatever his name is in charge is a good idea is beyond me. By the way, did you finish FF7R?

I'm about two thirds of the way through I think, been avoiding the thread as I'm a bit behind and don't want to see any spoilers. Been busy at home for the past week or so, so my playtime has been pretty low unfortunately.

I'm hoping to have it finished by Monday.

I'm a few hours after rescuing Wedge, on my way to the Shinra building to rescue Aerith.

Aries dies :p

To be fair, at this rate she might not! Or at the least, she might at a different point in the story. The ghost things remind me of the Temple of Ancients things from the original game...
My spoiler was not a spoiler, just a repeat of what I did last time in the FF7 thread for the ***** and giggles. So you might be right or not :p

Anyway, back on track. I agree with Jonney, ST: Picard had it's moments, loved the nostalgia, but ultimately was a let down :p

I think I figured out the problem. Trekkies don't like Star Trek shows where the story is spread out over a season. They like their stories to be done and done dusted by the end of the episode and at some stage the solution has to involve modulating shield harmonics or rotating phaser frequencies.

Trekkies can some times be dragged away from reading the canon long enough to watch a story that takes 2 episodes!! But this was rare.

:p:p:D

I dont like those style anymore. i want stories to be told in at least a while season. Not in one 45min episode.

I am not 12 year's old anymore that can only follow a 30min/45min story. i can follow a whole 8 seasons of stuff aka game of thrones which ended poorly btw

I don't think it's just the story structure, it's the feel, tone, story and characters of it. It really could just be a low budget Netflix/Sci-fy/Amazon series with nicer VFX and a Trek skin. And to be fair, the story and characters are pretty badly written. If you replace the nostalgic TNG characters with STD's Burnham, it would be just as badly structured as STD.

There are people like Critical Drinker on Youtube who clearly explain where it's gone wrong, not just for "not being Trek", but for being badly put together.

Triggered!!! :p

Relax guys, my post was a joke. It definitely wasn't any attempt to figure out where Picard went right or wrong.

I actually like long story arcs, when done well! I enjoyed DS9 and BattleStar Galactica. I also loved the double episodes of TNG. The thing is, the TNG cast was a bit special, also I just loved the world it was set in. ST: Picard just cannot compare (thus far anyway).

This comes to mind regarding Picard as a Star Trek show:

Watching it feels like this:

Yeah, but we couldn't have the proper Enterprise in Discovery. I'm sure everyone on here told me that it had to be changed because it would silly/because 31.638% different rule/because reasons, and that I was foolish for suggesting that a) it could have been done and b) if they couldn't do it then better not to show the ship at all and save themselves the continuity snarl.

*shrug*
