Star Trek : Strange New Worlds

I don't know why people care so deeply about this. It's a simple case of if you don't like or relate to any characters in a show, then don't watch it. There just seems to be a sense of entitlement that someone's favourite show should always be relatable to them. Shows like this are supposed to have characters and events you don't like, it's how stories work, but somehow people seem to take offence when it doesn't go their way like their favourite sports team losing.

Plus, I think moaning about inclusivity in relation to Star Trek is ridiculous. The whole premise of the show, the Federation etc is inclusivity, it's the soul of the whole thing.

Anyway, are shuttles supposed to have a yoke & throttle control like we saw in this episode? Made for nice action shots however Ortegas piloting at the helm of Enterprise looks so awkward in comparison. The external shots are great love seeing the ship in action but I hope they lay off the skilled pilot close ups a bit now, it looks like trying to drive your car via the infotainment screen (Don't get any ideas Musk).

People may hold whichever opinions suit them. Perhaps some don't like identity politics in everything they watch and just want to be, I dunno, entertained maybe?

Okay...so where was this identity politics that you speak of in the last episode?

There was a lot about identity, I'll grant you. Kinda had to be given the subject matter (space phenomenomenomenon removing memories). But identity politics? Naw. It was about lots of things, but I don't believe that was among them.

No need to be nasty. All this BS talk of woke and crap really gets on my wick. It's all in people's heads. We're you also outraged when disabled people started getting prominent acting roles or redheads? Everyone is entitled to be fairly represented in the media. Its not woke or extreme. What is annoying is in shows like discovery where they constantly talk about it and make it obvious they are the focus and not the story. StW certainly doesn't do that. She is just a good pilot amd other member of the bridge crew.
And complaining about wokeness in Star Trek of all things! Historically, probably and possibly the most ‘woke’ show in TV history.

There were women in it! And one of them might be a Lesbian too!:eek:

Not watched the latest episode yet. Not sure if I even want to. I was going by past experience of the character, if you could call it that.

But do they talk about it and reference it in every scene and episode? No its not even brought up at all. So it's only you talking about it making it a big deal.
we didn't bring it up you did... we were just talking about the ridiculous haircut. only thing worse if if she dyes it purple.

Is it star fleet regulation?.

More episode/series musings.

Ortegas was done dirty more than once this time out. First, she's allegedly needed on the ship so she doesn't get to go on the away mission. But then Una essentially tells her she's surplus to requirements anyway and has her escort Uhura to sickbay!
I'll have to see if I saved the post, but I saw someone on the Instas had built up a model kit of the SNW Enterprise but painted it in colours reminiscent of the proper one. And it looked a helluva lot better than what we have on-screen...
On rewatching, I feel I sounded a bit dismissive of Luq (played by Reed Birney) when I called him a "plucky native" helping out the landing party. Birney did a more-than solid turn as a guest star here, especially once his memories were back at the palace.

Just watch it. There is no issues with it. I'm not the characters biggest fan but Ortegas sexuality or anything else is NOT brought up, not once.
Yeah you're right, I just finished it and it wasn't too bad. I didn't skip any of it this week. The young female pilot wasn't too annoying and she had quite a few lines. The story was quite well done. A solid 7/10 I'd say.

like 5 people lived on the planet.
That ex starfleet guy didn't want to leave even though he was basically ruling over a barren wasteland and must have had a really crap life?

right...

right...

When leaving means going home to face a court martial over breaking the Prime Directive...

'Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven'.
