****Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker - Official Thread****

In order to have a half decent Christmas I’ll be steering well clear of this til sometime in the new year. I’ve come to realise that the entire reason I’ve grown to loathe the Disney trilogy of the main films is the whole “modernisation “ thing they have tried.
It’s space opera... not space pop.

Not sure any of that makes sense but if it makes your Christmas better then good luck.

I mean around the dialogue... It all seems to be trying too hard to be modern and relevant to today's age rather than time neutral which to me at least has a bit of a jarring effect.

All of the new Star Wars films have been lovingly made, with great production values stunning effects and props, but the main trilogy plot can much like a turd only be polished so much.

Must admit I'm not an insane, loony tune hater like some of the Luke tossing basement dweller "fans"who loathe anything that isn't Luke killing 500 stromtroopers and a star destroyer with a stray fart he squeezes out, and I tend to take what star wars offers and enjoy what it is at face value.... Even then this looks pretty dross, may spend an afternoon between Xmas and new year to watch and fill some time but I'm more looking forward to Witcher TV series than this.

Daisy makes my blood boil!

This is the problem. They've completely backed themselves into a corner. The whole trilogy could have been brilliant, but the previous two films have done absolutely nothing to move the story along and as a result anything now will just be tacked on.

We're out of ideas, so instead of one star destroyer, lets have 1000. Let's also give them bigger weapons. Lets randomly bring Palpatine back with no prior hint or lead up. The whole thing is dire.

They've done the whole JJ Abrams thing of "rebooting" the franchise which basically means retell the same stories only with a new generation of actors and SFX and hey presto! Its exactly the same as the old but its NEW! New I tell you!

Luke is now Obi Wan, Han's son has become Darth Vader, Princess Leia is now random female commander weary of the war replacing older female commander but now old herself... and nothing has changed whatsover in 30 odd years apparently the empire is still in control and they're destined to repeat the same story ad finitum probably until the end of time.

Trouble is there isn't much else on at Christmas except endless kiddies films on telly and more helpings of xmas pud so will probably trudge off to the cinema for a break for a few hours and be disappointed yet again...
