****Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker - Official Thread****

Just to keep on topic, I was taken out of school to see all three original Star Wars movies (along with Star Trek: The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan) and yet it did my education no harm whatsoever. That guy above who is 'horrified' about a kid being taken to see a movie on a school day would've been a blubbering mess if he was around back in the day when we were routinely taken out of school for two weeks at a time for holidays.

I've seen your posts in here. That's a pretty bold claim!

So Rey is a Mary Sue in real life too. She has privilege oozing out of her.

What an idiot. Has Boyega had any response on this? I'm amazed she's felt she could say that, as they must know each other pretty well. Unless she feels that you can't benefit from being backed by wealth, private education and insider contacts if you don't have a willy.

I thought Star Wars was woke now?!

The problem with that is when teachers strike, it magically becomes ok for kids to miss school:p.
Or, in the case of both of my kids schools, they have to close for a day in late November so (and I'm not kidding) the teachers can have a shopping day in preparation for Christmas. I also work weekday office hours (longer than school hours) and tried the same excuse on my boss and she didn't accept my reasoning. She must hate teachers or something. ;-)

Personally, I'm looking forward to TRoS being released. Not because I'll be seeing it at the cinema but because then maybe I'll stop seeing so many posts/videos about it. Oh, hang on...that didn't work so well with TLJ.

Apparently her school was around 12k per term.

So?

It was a stupid interview question to ask and served very little purpose. There was no way to answer it which wasn’t going to draw criticism but it’s great for clicks and advertising revenue.

Not really, the film isn’t out yet so there isn’t a lot to discuss outside a few trailers that have been discussed to death. How many movie threads get to 35 pages let alone before it’s even out?

Most people here seem to want it to be ‘bad’ regardless of how the film actually turns out so they can turn round and say “I TOLD YOU DISNEY RUIN EVERYTHING WHAAAA” while ignoring the fact most of what Disney has put out has been to a good standard, particularly The Mandalorian which has been brilliant.

I stick by the claim that the majority of the whining is due to Disney not making the film "they wanted to see". People had an idea in their minds how it was all going to go and then it didn't, it felt like a personal betrayal.
I've never gone into any of the post-Lucas era with any expectations on what may or may not happen and I've left generally satisfied with what I've seen.

I don't think it's whaaa Disney ruined it personally as I thought force awakens was decent and had some ideas where it could have gone.

Johnson ruined that of course, Disney mistake for me was wanting different directors in the first place, it should have been the same director for all three.

Plus Disney brought us rogue one which is the best star wars film of the modern era imo and up their with the original films

Disney as a collective are the best in the business. It's the management side of things that lets it down but you will always get that in corporate.

Just booked the tickets for me and my ma for the 12:40 showing on the 19th. Giving the Dolby cinema at the Trafford Centre a go and managed to get a wheelchair space for her.

Are these Dolby screens any good? I usually go to the Printworks IMAX but the city centre is a bit too chaotic this time of year.

Wow thats a really poor read of the situation in my opinion. I'd say the fans on here genuinely "want" Ep9 to be a great movie, but they are 99% sure that the movie isn't going to be great and will instead be a final nail in a the coffin of a once great franchise that they supported and invested in for decades.

To me it's the difference between "expectation vs reality" where no matter how much we want really do want it (Ep9 and the Skywalker series) to finish on a high note, we just know it's not, and that disappointment is frustrating to most.

People had an idea in their minds how it was all going to go and then it didn't, it felt like a personal betrayal.

Again I'd disagree. I'd say fans wanted a "good film" first and foremost yet didn't get that, which then led to people being more negative towards the film than if it had been a really good one with just a few difference choices for characters for fans to argue over.

Personally I'd love it to be great, but I find it tough to swallow themes like Palpatine appearing with zero build up in the previous films. They could explain these things away, but I doubt it.
