****Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker - Official Thread****

That was the exact moment I realised the trilogy was unsalvageable. For a few seconds I thought they had
killed Chewie
and honestly didn't care. One of the most loved charatcers in Star Wars was no more and it was like 'yeah, why not'. Total apathy.

Interesting what different takes people had - I cared and for at least a few seconds prior to realising that it was obviously a fakeout though "Damn, that was a bold choice, but fair play maybe they are going to surprise me here"... until they didn't

Having quite enjoyed TFA and TLJ for the popcorn movies that SW movies are....I was surprised how awful TROS was.

It's just a bad bit of film-making. No flow to it, nonsensical jumping around the galaxy, stupid fighting across spacetime weirdness, crap action scenes.

Palpatine always was a carp one-dimensional bad guy....there's nothing interesting about him at all...I was waiting for the last scene to finish.

TLJ had much better action sequences....without any in TROS you're just left with...a limp lettuce leaf of disappointment. Glad I only rented it.

At least the Mandalorian is good :)

The Disney trilogy started off meh and got exponentially worse with each movie. Not sure they could have done much worse if they'd tried.

Solo was also pretty dire, but I did enjoy Rogue one.

I think all the reshoots for every movie shows that they just don't know what the hell they are doing. Lucasfilm used to know their universe and their characters (like when Marvel was running the MCU). Now we have a situation where Kathleen Kennedy gets in some director who matches her agenda, doesn't know anything about Star Wars, and then proceeds to make up whatever **** they fancy, with no reference to the fictional universe it's set in and what has gone before. And like the DCU, it end up being unmitigated crap once you get a chance to think about what you've seen past the shiny-shiny VFX overload they've pumped into your eyes.

Rogue One and The Mandalorian are decent, they could have done better, but at least they are good entertainment without feeling like your IQ is literally diminishing scene by scene. There is a lot they nailed with those two and even Solo despite some areas they could have done better. I think Solo was impacted by the shadow of TLJ.

It is weird how they manage to get most aspects right with those and then you have the likes of TLJ.

I just watched Rise of Skywalker as it is on D+ otherwise I hadn't been intending to and frustratingly it is almost good, but every time you think ah now finally it is coming together they throw in a scene or change of direction, etc. that leaves you wondering what on earth was wrong with the people involved I say it carefully but you literally need to be brain damaged* to think some of it was a good idea from a writer/producer/director perspective. And it still isn't as utterly pants on head stupid as TLJ.

* Does make me wonder if the people involved are the worst for drugs.

I thought Solo was great. Comfortably up there with Rogue One and Mandalorian and the most fitting recent movie to the original trilogy. It was TLJ coming out just before that killed it - a film so awful it made the entire planet not care about Star Wars. It's a real shame as Solo was obviously intended to be the start of a spin-off series and could have been excellent.

RoS was just a complete cluster that never had a chance of fixing the damage done by TLJ. How can we fix this mess??! I know, let's shoe-horn every possible Star Wars reference possible into one movie with no thought of pacing, flow, character development ..

TFA was decent enough, but can't exist alone. It has since been purged from my personal canon, along with the rest of the new trilogy, and never happened.

Pretty spot on comments there.

Totally, though the mando has a ways to go yet. At times I felt it a 20 minute live action cartoon, but everything else spot on.

It's worth remembering that the Mandolorian was originally supposed to be a Boba Fett movie before the TLJ and Solo debacles, and it does feel that it's been stretched out from what would have been a two hour film.

Midnight's Edge did an interesting editorial which suggests that the reason for TLJ being as it was is because of KK's long term plan for Star Wars. I have to say, Andre makes a good case but I guess we'll have to see what emerges in the future to see if he's right or not.

I watched this again on the 4th and you know what? I didn't hate it.

Yes it's was a complete mess but I could easily sit back and watch it again. I just love star wars that much.

I really liked Han Solo and R1 but for the life of me I never want to see The Last jedi jedi ever again. It's just a horrible film.

Half of it was a really good movie to be fair - someone could probably cut it to a pretty epic Star Wars story with a bit of effort and some extra footage, cutting some of the sillier stuff and changing the context a bit on some of the rest. The other half though was well I can only assume whoever was involved was either deranged or on drugs.

It wasn't like TLJ which was terrible from start to finish other than the VFX - I just can't imagine how any director could have intended it to be anything other than to damage the franchise.

I have watched TLJ twice once at the cinema when I was stunned(not in a good way) the second time with my wife on Sky. I never want to watch it again. It is such a hideous betrayal of a Luke and the first trilogy it makes me sad and angry it bears a Star Wars moniker. That’s disregarding all the other poor plot choices. I remember seeing the film the first time then seeing Roz from ET Canada reaction and thinking I agreed with every word.

RoS is a mess but JJ for all his faults could only polish the turd by that point.

RoS is garbage but I can turn my brain off and enjoy the pretty moving pictures. TLJ is garbage and one of the most boring films I've ever watched.

I thought the Mandalorian was drivel. Started well enough but no way gritty enough. Relies far too much on another cutesy character and we are supposed to believe no one remembers Yoda? The episode on the planet with the woman ex shock trooper was shocking. The fight scenes are laughable, like 1980's spider-man tv show. Still it's better than the lastest and last series of clone wars, such a great great show ruined with the most boring slapped together nonsense.
