I hope its a reboot and not following on somehow.

He will still be an advisor. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing with regards protecting the expanded stories.

Yeah but exactly that, they will go to him for advice. I would like to think they would ignore his crap advice, as they have ownership of the IP!

Hmmm it's a tough route to take. They either make the expanded universe books, so little surprises but that worked anyway with fans of harry potter who had read the books. Or they go their own route and completely **** off million of people who have invested 20 years in the expanded books.

What worries me is in the video clip Lucas comments on his outline for 7,8 &9. So it will still be his storyboard for those films. Whether they follow the books remains to be seen.

All the essential components to make a once-great franchise superb again are already there. Removing Lucas as scriptwriter and getting in someone who knows what they're doing is all that's really required. Episodes I-III were terrible because Lucas had carte blanche to do his own thing how he wanted. Disney are infinitely more likely to give the people what they want.

I just had a great idea.

It should be a musical. A bit like the life day special, but more Disney!

:edit: For those who have not had the joy :)

How can they finish the story of Luke without using Hamill and co? I don't think I could watch another actor/s play Han and Luke. Trouble is Carrie Fisher now looks like Jabba. The rest could get away with it, apart from her.

Still dunno how to feel about this! Shocked at first and I'm still unsure carrying on the storyline with be the right thing to do. Perhaps someone who's read the books that continue after Ep. 6 can give us a little idea where it might go? Do they all have children etc to carry it on?

Oh and also:

I hope not, replace them and start again. Especially as they want to make one every two years, would make no sense using the old actors and not needed.

I can't see it, Lucas always said the 9 films were Lukes story, which is why even in the expanded universe he gave rights to kill any main character except Luke. Luke is in his 60's in the latest set of books. If they went that far into the future they could get away with it.

I feel though they will roll these out so often they need to start again and it will make no one except 8 year olds happy. I feel we will get a pirates of the Caribbean experience from now on.

$4bn for this?

Will be interesting to see if Disney recoup that.

Easily. Forget the films just think merchandising and all the stuff that's had limited runs that they can pump back out on mass. Lego, figures etc.

DVD's Blu rays for the next trilogy, new figures, new lego new video games. They will make their money back 10 fold. Clearly Lucas just cannot be bothered to run with it anymore.
