Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

jj has a tougher task making 3rd part than he did when bringing star wars back

With any luck he'll do an alternate timeline.

This was bad. Very bad. After last year's Rogue One reminded me how SW can be dark, menacing and feel worthy, this just brought me crashing back down.

Weak.

That could end up very messy though, and ruin any plot lines from past, I know I wouldn't wanna be directing episode 9!

TLJ was great! Leagues ahead of the PT and yes, it was much better than TFA which left me cold because it was such a rehash of ANH and had such glaring flaws (like the depiction of The Starkiller base destroying planets bit which bugs the hell out of me because it makes no sense). Yeah the Casino bit dragged and could have done with 10 mins of it cut out, and the last shot of the movie was out of place and odd. But i had no problems with the rest of it.

There was a scene that was so left field that i loved it as it's rare for a movie to surprise me these days.

But the rest was a quaility Star Wars film and i don't have any idea where this could be going, which is great, i love it when i can't predict things. This has reignited my love for Star Wars which was starting to whine a bit

I don't know why this is getting such hate everywhere. There's a lot to love

Thoroughly whelmed by episode 8. After Rogue One I felt this was a bit of a Disney shock, and never really got attached to anything going on, nor am I that interested in what's to come.
I found R2 meeting Luke again one of the most emotional parts, and it's a tiny cameo. So I guess BB8 just replaces one of the most beloved characters now. I know they didn't want to change anything because of Carrie Fisher's death, but I felt they should. If we jump forward in time on the next episode and she's died in between then that's a poor tribute to her character, and they said hey don't want to CGI her again so what can they do?
It will be a different generations who like the sequels, like a different generations who like the prequels than the different generations who like the original.
I don't agree. Star Wars' original trilogy transcends generations. They're captivating films, which everyone can enjoy.
I did too loved the film, but did you not think it left itself with very little room to go anywhere next?
I feel like it has too much room, this feels like a franchise reboot with fewer links to the heritage and while they need to freshen it up, Star Wars shouldn't become a comedy space opera.
So we've got to start up the rebellion again. New force enabled slave kids are popping out of nowhere. Rey's parents are a big deal and we're not allowed to know for another 2 years. Prepare for the Death Star 3.0.

Yeah I can’t understand the hate. I think people went in with the film they wanted already played out in their heads.

Don't worry, they're not short of ideas. I bet Disney have the next 10 SW films already mapped out.
Mapped out? They've not even had a story in line for these 3 films and have been writing them as they go. Madness. Read JJ had just submitted his story for episode 9 the other day. Surely in a planned trilogy you write or have the story written for all 3 before starting. Writing it as you go along is just messy and is how we got The Last Jedi. You can actually tell it was written by some one other than the Force Awakens. Completely different tone to the movie.

I think what he did with the originals is what he should have done now, give the outline of his story to someone else, rather than the whole thing for someone to do.

Did he mess up the prequels? For a whole new generation of kids view those as better than the originals and spawned characters that will last a lifetime. Maul, some of the Jedi, grevious, dooku, he created iconic characters that spawned a whole new generation. Yet my son couldn’t name a single person in rogue one therefore had zero interest in merchandise, even though he loved this film it’s Luke he came to see, he’s never once asked for a force awakens lego set despite half my house being full of the stuff. They are just instantly forgettable characters, regardless of how bad I think attack of the clones is, Lucas got the characters spot on, just a shame someone else didn’t write the dialogue.

Kids today aren't obsessed with Star Wars in the same way as we were at the same age. It's all about MCU and their movies. Which has stolen a lot of the thunder. Yes they make big bucks in the cinema. But are more quickly forgotten about than the MCU movies.

Agreed, and with Fisher's death, they already replaced the planned director with JJ and started the script again from scratch.

You believe George Lucas that he had episode 4-6 all mapped out? That's something he made up as the years went by

He had a general idea about what was going to happen but that was it.

Seen my first viewing, next one either later this week or next.

+ Opening scene was a delight; Poe bossing it, that awesome First Order captain
+ Luke, Rey &, Leia & Kylo were all excellent
+ Enjoyed the brief moments of Snoke
+ His red guard were brilliant (were they the former students) as was the fight between them and Kylo/Rey
+ That move by Holdo - visual masterpiece
+ Enjoyed most of the humour
+ Didn't see some of the twists
+ Loved puppet Yoda

- I didn't really like the casino side quest, didn't really add much
- The problem with new 'moves' or powers is that you think why wasn't that used in the past? Such as Luke's force projection and Holdo's light speed ramming
- Captain Phasma. This screamed "we wasted her last time, so lets use more this time"......for all of 20 seconds and is she really dead? That armour can clearly take a beating
- What's with the bombs? Weird delivery system for advanced technology
- Snoke - was really looking forward to learning more about him
- Why couldn't Holdo just tell Poe/keep him more in the loop than the forced conflict
- The part of Luke's side I didn't like; OK it was a fleeting thought but he couldn't come up with a better idea than fleetingly thinking about killing his nephew (without talking to Leia and Han)
- Maz Kanata - it's like the camera used in The Running Man :p
- Hux does sure shout a lot
- A Disney thing now - just a little too much on the humour

Overall I think I quite enjoyed it but it did have a few faults. With time I think it will grow more on me, it's very hard to find a faultless film.

One guy who was the originator of the vision. It's much easier to build a coherent universe and make decisions along the way that fit your vision and build to something significant.

so episode 9 is going to be on a jungle planet with teddy bears!

obviously fighting against a starkiller base v2

jedi ghosts at the end

it's almost guaranteed......

This 100% Lucas created the characters and knew the path he wanted them to go on. Having one guy write and direct the first in a trilogy then handing the reigns to another guy for the second part is a huge mistake and one that resulted in the movie we got. Big build up to Rey giving Luke his lightsaber back that also belonged to his father and in the sequel we get him tossing it over his shoulder in a spoof movie type of way. JJ has a massive job on his hands to turn this one around as The Last Jedi hasn't moved the story on at all other than kill off nearly all of the interesting characters.

I don't see how the start changed the vision at all. The end of TFA was Rey (and the rebellion's) perception of Luke, that he was going to be some mysterious figure that was going to return and solve all their problems. In truth he wants nothing to do with the galaxy and just wants to be left alone

And let's not pretend that Lucas had one consistent vision, he changed a lot of things as he went, even something as simple as lightsabers starting off as heavy, unwieldy things and turning into flamboyant weapons.
